Bengaluru, NFAPost: Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte exhorted the investors to avail the state’s strategic location, bordering Bangladesh and acting as a gateway to Southeast Asia, for global expansion.
“Tripura’s strategic location enhances Indian corporates’ export potential, while access to the Chittagong Port and expanding multimodal transport links strengthen trade logistics. I want to position the state of Tripura as one of India’s most promising emerging business destinations, backed by rapid infrastructure growth, policy support and strategic geographic advantages,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte.

Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte was speaking at the investors’ roadshow on ‘Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026’, jointly organised by the Tripura Department of Industries & Commerce, the Government of Tripura and FICCI.
“Backed by significant public investment, improving connectivity, and policy support, the region is transitioning from a peripheral market to a growth frontier. Here I want to highlight that sustained public investments have fundamentally transformed the economic landscape of the Northeast,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte.

Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte also noted that the Central government has invested over Rs 15 lakh crore in public infrastructure over the past decade, spanning national highways, railways, oil and gas, banking, insurance, digital connectivity, and aviation.
“This, coupled with a mandate requiring all ministries to allocate 10% of their budgets to the Northeast, has significantly boosted development in the region. Earlier, ministries struggled to fully utilise these funds due to limited absorption capacity. That is no longer the case today,” indicated Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte, adding that states are now effectively deploying these resources.
supported by parallel investments from state governments.
Days earlier, the roadshow in Hyderabad on April 7 had produced approximately 50 LoIs and MoUs worth over Rs. 2,500 crore, establishing a strong base ahead of the Bengaluru leg. At the Bengaluru roadshow, Industries & Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte highlighted the state’s progress on Ease of Doing Business, citing policy reforms, simplified procedures, and time-bound approvals.
According to Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte, nearly Rs 1 lakh crore is now being allocated annually through the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), reflecting both increased funding and improved execution capabilities.

“This has translated into visible progress across infrastructure, education, and industry, positioning the Northeast as India’s next major growth frontier. Tripura also stands out due to its natural resource base and connectivity advantages,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte.
The Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, the culminating event of this outreach campaign, is scheduled for May 14 and 15 in Agartala.
With nearly 74% forest cover, compared to about 38% in Assam and around 48% in Sikkim, Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte said the state offers abundant and sustainable resources, including commercially valuable bamboo.
Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte. emphasised that traditional practices in the region ensure responsible utilisation of these resources, aligning with global sustainability priorities.
On the connectivity front, he pointed to the 2015 protocol agreement between India and Bangladesh for the use of Chittagong Port, which has significantly enhanced trade access.
“With five operational land ports and improving bilateral cooperation, Tripura now has a direct gateway not only to Bangladesh but also to broader international markets. Additionally, multimodal connectivity
through waterways linking to the Hooghly River and extending to Varanasi is expected to further strengthen logistics and trade efficiency,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte.
Speaking at the event, Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar highlighted the state’s strong agricultural and energy profile.

“Tripura produces a range of high-value crops, including spices, pineapple, jackfruit, bananas, and citrus fruits. It is also rich in natural gas, enabling it to operate thermal power plants that meet local demand while exporting around 200 MW of electricity. This ensures reliable and cost-effective energy availability, an important factor for industrial investors,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar.
Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar also highlighted that policy support remains a key pillar of Tripura’s investment appeal.
“The state offers a combination of central incentives and its own industrial policy, including customised packages for large projects exceeding Rs 100 crore. These include tailored subsidies, gap funding, and project-specific support based on detailed feasibility assessments. A single-window clearance system further simplifies the process of setting up businesses,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar.
Addressing perceptions about the region, Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar also highlighted that urbanisation is accelerating rapidly.
“Around 25% of Tripura’s population currently resides in urban areas, a figure expected to rise to
40–45% over the next decade. This urban growth is opening up opportunities across sectors such as
hospitality, tourism, transportation, and urban services,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar.
He also identified healthcare as a high-potential sector, noting strong demand from within the
Northeast and neighbouring countries such as Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
“The state government is facilitating investments by offering land on long-term leases of up to 90 years and, in some cases, providing built-up infrastructure to reduce initial capital requirements. This has already led to growth in private medical colleges, paramedical institutes, and hospitals,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar.
He also added that investors in both manufacturing and services can benefit from efficient asset utilisation and proximity to the Bay of Bengal, which enhances trade linkages.
“Tripura ranks 20th among 33 states and Union Territories in terms of GDP based on purchasing power parity, indicating a stable and growing consumer base. This ensures that businesses investing in the state can tap into a market with adequate purchasing capacity, further strengthening its investment proposition,” said Tripura Industries and Commerce Director Deepak Kumar.
