Bengaluru, NFAPost: The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, revealed today that India’s prestigious lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, is scheduled to be launched in July. The minister made this announcement during a press interaction on the sidelines of a massive public rally. According to Dr Singh, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to demonstrate critical technology by landing the spacecraft on the Moon’s South Pole.
Earlier this year, Chandrayaan-3 completed essential tests that validated its capability to withstand the harsh lunar environment during its launch and subsequent journey. Dr Singh highlighted the significance of India’s previous lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, which discovered water on the Moon’s surface, earning the country a place of pride and supremacy in the global space arena. This groundbreaking finding was acknowledged by leading space agencies such as NASA in the United States.
Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-up mission to Chandrayaan-2 and aligns with the theme of “Science of the Moon.” The scientific instruments onboard the lander and rover will study various aspects of the lunar environment, including thermo-physical properties. Notably, an experimental instrument incorporated in the mission may also allow for studying different aspects of Earth, giving rise to the simultaneous theme of “Science from the Moon.”
Addressing a massive public rally earlier, Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized that the public-centric schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past nine years aim to transform the lives of marginalized sections of society. These initiatives are also expected to bring about socio-economic transformations and shape a change in social culture and behaviour.
Dr Singh mentioned that initiatives like Rozgar Mela, StartUp India, and Mudra Yojna have been designed with sensitivity and compassion, assuring the youth of a level playing field and equal opportunities based on their abilities and hard work. In addition, schemes like Ujjawala and Swachhta (toilets) aim to provide convenience, safety, and dignity to women in India.
With the upcoming launch of Chandrayaan-3, India remains steadfast in its pursuit of space exploration and scientific advancements, further cementing its position as a key player in the global space community. The mission holds great promise for unravelling the mysteries of the Moon and contributing to our understanding of both lunar and Earth environments.
