In a bid to make the marvels of space exploration more accessible, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has partnered with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) to launch the innovative “Space on Wheels” program. This pioneering initiative is set to captivate students and space enthusiasts in the East Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing the remarkable achievements of India’s space missions.
The inaugural day witnessed the grand unveiling of the “Space on Wheels” exhibition at JN College Pasighat, where students from various educational institutions eagerly immersed themselves in the world of space science. The primary objective was to offer a firsthand glimpse into ISRO’s missions and to ignite a passion for space-related careers among young learners.
Housed within a specially designed bus, the mobile exhibition featured intricate models of ISRO’s launch vehicles, satellites, and communication systems. Its mission was crystal clear: to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, encouraging them to explore research and career opportunities within ISRO.
Day two of the program saw a staggering turnout of over 800 students, all eager to engage with the “Space on Wheels” exposition. The event was graced by the presence of Prof Tomo Riba, Vice Chancellor of Arunachal Pradesh University, Dr. Tasi Taloh, Principal of JN College, and Akash Pandey, the national coordinator of the program.
The exhibition is set to continue its tour, visiting Independent Golden Jubilee Government Higher Secondary School and Daying Ering Memorial Government Higher Secondary School in Pasighat. This presents an invaluable opportunity for both students and the public to delve deeper into the exhibits, nurturing their fascination with space science.
To enhance the educational experience, two distinguished scientists from the North Eastern Space Applications Centre in Shillong are accompanying the exhibition bus. Their presence is aimed at inspiring and addressing the queries of students, fostering a deeper understanding of India’s space endeavours and kindling scientific curiosity.
The “Space on Wheels” program has a dual focus: to offer insights into ISRO’s activities and India’s space missions to school and college students in Arunachal Pradesh and to raise awareness about the plethora of exciting career opportunities in the field of space science. As it embarks on its journey through Arunachal Pradesh, this initiative is poised to stimulate the imagination of young minds and significantly contribute to the advancement of space science education in the region.
This collaborative effort between ISRO and Vijnana Bharati exemplifies a commitment to nurturing future talent and fostering a profound appreciation for space exploration among India’s youth. It stands as a testament to the strides being made in democratizing access to the wonders of space.
