Bengaluru, NFAPost: A Rapido Captain demonstrated exceptional bravery by rescuing a 6-year-old girl from a potential perpetrator near the Irrum Manzil metro station in Hyderabad. Kalyan Karamthot, a 24-year-old engineering graduate and current Rapido Captain, witnessed a distressing scene while waiting for a ride and promptly took action by calling the police. Thanks to his quick thinking, the culprit was apprehended, and the young girl was saved from harm.
The incident occurred at 10:30 pm when Kalyan observed a fruit vendor exposing himself to the girl, causing her great discomfort. Sensing something was wrong, he questioned the vendor’s claim that the girl was his daughter. Realizing the urgency of the situation, Kalyan immediately contacted the police, leading to the arrest of the perpetrator, identified as Afroz Khan.
Kalyan’s courageous and decisive actions have garnered praise and recognition from Additional Director General of Police, Shikha Goel. Born and raised in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, Kalyan graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from JNTUA College of Engineering, Pulivendula in 2020. Alongside his work as a Rapido Captain, he is currently pursuing a UI/UX course.
During his felicitation, Kalyan humbly expressed, “My parents always taught me to do the right thing, regardless of the consequences. They encouraged me to file an FIR and assured me of their support. I couldn’t have lived with myself if I had done nothing and something had happened to that girl.”
