India will probably buck the trend of having a much faster rollout of 5G compared to many other geographies, says Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
New Delhi, NFAPost: Giving fillip to India’s ambitious tech journey, 5G telecom services will be made available in India from October 2022 onwards, states Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The government will allocate the spectrum soon after the end of 5G auction, which will lead to roll out of services in October. Vaishnaw said while addressing a press conference in Mumbai .
Stating that the 5G rollout all over the world has been slow, he said, India will have a much faster rollout of 5G compared to many other nations. He said in case of high pricing for 5G services, the government will intervene and state-owned BSNL will act as a market balancer.
Highlighting the fact that the 5G rollout all over the world has been slow, Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India will probably buck the trend of having a much faster rollout of 5G compared to many other geographies since our other costs are significantly under control.
“The government has fetched Rs 1.49 lakh crore from 5G spectrum auction till Saturday and I am confident that this would cross Rs 1.5 lakh crore,” said Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
As regards pricing of 5G services, Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. said on average in the world, cost of telecom services is Rs 2,400 [per month] while it is around Rs 200 per month in India, data cost is lowest in India in the world.
The Minister further said that, in case of high pricing for 5G services, the government would intervene and state-owned BSNL, which will rollout 5G “very rapidly”, will act as a market balancer.
Going forward, the 5G spectrum auction is doing well shows that the industry is taking off, the results are very good, he concludes.
