Thiruvananthapuram, NFAPost: As part of initiative to take on Covid-19 pandemic spread across the country, the Kerala government started scouting land to set up an international manufacturing site for the vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Centre.
According to Kerala Industries Minister P Rajeeve, the state government has initiatied talks with Gamaleya Centre to set up manufacturing facility for Sputnik V, considered to be one maing the most used medicine against Covid-19.
“Talks are on between the Russian government and Kerala regarding the setting up of a manufacturing unit of Sputnik V in our state. Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is spearheading the talks,” said P Rajeeve.
The initial plan is to submit a letter of intend and the KSIDC is preparing the draft. The government is looking for land near Thiruvananthapuram. The development comes at a time when India is going ahead with its effort to setup local manufacturing.
However, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which markets Sputnik V internationally, did not comment on the matter.
