B2B meeting turns grand success with Global Innovation Alliance participation
Bengaluru: The flagship technology event Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020 concluded on Saturday with a high note as the first virtual format widened its reach with the participation of around 2.5 crore visitors and overwhelming success of the B2B meetings.
Interacting at the valedictory function of the event, DCM Ashwath Narayan said the event platform and its social media extension helped to garner more global attention than expected.
“Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020 brought a total virtual footfall of around 2.5 crore visitors. This overwhelming response shows its global reach and importance,” said the minister.
The BTS 2020 virtual exposure got wide visibility as the inaugural event where Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke also live-streamed on BTS virtual platform as well as BTS YouTube channel along with other session.
Moreover, Facebook helped the event to reach 5, 42,156 people, besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi Facebook Pages also saw good traffic.
BTS 2020 campaign on other social media like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram brought a total reach of 88,57,614, besides impressions of 1,33,19,232 (1.33 Crore) and unique clicks of 50,997.
BTS leads transformation
Speaking on the occasion, C N Ashwath Narayan said Bengaluru Tech Summit has always taken charge to lead the transformation of India with innovation, science and technology.
“The theme of this year’s summit was “Next is Now”, building on the success of our event last year. Innovation, especially in leveraging disruptive technologies, is the need of the hour. Through the sessions, panels, presentations, knowledge café, etc., we have created a larger platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas,” said N Ashwath Narayan.
This year, it was a matter of great privilege to have the presence of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi ji inaugurate the Summit this year. The Prime Minister’s presence and inspiring words gave us all the energy over the last three days. We were honoured by the virtual presence from Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison and Swiss Confederation Vice President Guy Parmelin,” he said.
He further said the dates of BTS 2021 will be announced, however it will be held in the month of November. “The next BTS will be conducted physically and virtually for extending its global reach,” he said.
Business delegates
The event had a total 8,507 registered business delegates along with total attendees of 19,381 for the keynote, conference, awards and quiz competition attendees. On the conference front, Bengaluru Tech Summit had 12 keynote sessions on 93 sessions via 4 tracks.
On the B2B meeting front, there was a total 312 of them including IT, Biotech Inova Platform and BTS Platform B2B meetings.
The event had the participation of members from the Global Innovation Alliance (GIA) from 25 countries with 731 delegates. Besides 10 ministers from foreign countries as delegations, the event also witnessed the announcement of 8 MoUs with overseas countries.
The BTS2020 expo also attracted 248 participants who put up virtual booths. GIA Expo participants from Australia, Canada, USA, Bavaria, UK and NRW-Germany also had their booths. The expo also had 146 startups showcasing innovation in IT, Electronics, IoT, Healthcare, Medtech, Agritech, Fintech, Edutech, Mobility Sectors etc. Corporate, R&D and institutions like Biocon, Intel, Lockheed Martin, Amazon, Dassault Systems, ACT, VM Ware, Intuit, IIIT-B, IISc also participated,
The event also had lab to market participants like NewSpace India Ltd. ( ISRO Company), C-DAC, BIRAC, MSME CoE ( IISc) and Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Raman Research Institute, National Atlas Thematic.
Besides total expo visitors (delegates) 9,870, Bengaluru Tech Summit also had 10,104 interaction at booth level. It is interesting to note that 70% of the interactions were done by people in the age group of 21 – 35. Also, 24% females also participated at the event.
Four more MoUs
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan announced another four MoUs to be signed with its global innovation alliance (GIA) partner countries, including the USA, majorly in the aerospace sector.
“This summit has witnessed 8 MoUs with our partner countries and four more are in the pipeline. Out of which two MoUs will be signed with USA in aerospace sector. We are expecting exchange of ideas in this sector between India and our global innovation alliance (GIA) partner countries which may translate into investments in future,” he said at the valedictory function of the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020.
He added that Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for rapid innovation, synergies between biotechnology and information technology and global cooperation.
“BTS 2020 is the ideal platform for achieving these aims. Our Government is committed to ensuring that these technologies and innovations are made in Karnataka for the world, in collaboration with leading minds and to alleviate the life of the common man,” said C N Ashwath Narayan
The 23rd edition of the Summit was conducted under the guidance of the Chairmen and Members of the three Vision Groups on IT, Biotech and Start-ups. For the first time, an International Advisory Group was also formed to ensure a global perspective while designing the conference. BTS is the only event in India which has brought together India’s leading cross sectoral industry organizations like NASSCOM, TiE, ELCIA, IESA, ABAI, ABLE, CLIK and IACC on a common platform.
The Summit had leading innovators, scientists and tech evangelists participating from all across the globe. As part of the Global Innovation Alliances (GIA) track, there were 16 GIA sessions by international partners – Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and Taiwan.

Awards and recognition
Bengaluru Tech Summit also witnessed distribution of STPI IT Export Awards to IT companies for their performance and
contribution to IT industry in different categories. Besides Smart Bio Awards in five different categories, BTS 2020 selected Fibroheal Woundcare Private Limited, a healthcare biotech startup that developed biomaterial based wound healing products, as Startup of The Year award.
Ibrum Technologies Founder & CEO Nibedit Dey is selected for the Innovator of the Year award. Ibrum Technologies is developing a novel point-of-care pneumonia screening device for primary care healthcare users.
BTS2020 selected Zumutor Biologics Private Limited Co-Founder & CEO Kavitha Iyer Rodrigues as the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year. Here company Zumutor Biologics Private Limited is a biologics company focused on developing novel immune-oncotherapeutics.
The Best product against COVID-19 category Mobile Infection Testing and Reporting (MITR) Labs got the award. The company provides a unique end-to-end RT-PCR testing infrastructure developed by ShanMukha Innovations Private Limited.
The Best Social Enterprise/ Institute award is given to JALODBUST which is working on the problems of manual scavenging and exposure of sanitation workers to disease, drudgery and social ignominy.
Quiz competition
Despite the challenges of Covid-19 pandemic, there was an overwhelming participation for Quiz Competitions as part of BTS 2020. The 21st edition of the Rural IT Quiz had participation from over 150 districts from 6 States – Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, besides Karnataka.
The winners from the six States who qualified for the National Finals were:

The annual Bio Quiz, now on its 13th edition as part of BTS, had online participation of more than 800 students and that too 70% girl students. The BTS2020 selected 6 finalists which include 5 girl students. The winners include

BTS 2020 also had BIO Posters on Walk way of Discovery with 53 of them from leading Universities and research and development (R&D) Institutes.
