Bengaluru, NFAPost: As part of its effort to strengthen its market presence with new technologies, Vodafone Idea has selected Jagbir Singh as its new Chief Technology Officer.
The new appointment comes at a time when the company underwent new branding exercise. He is replacing Vishant Vora who left the organisation after a decade-long stint.
According to telecome industry analyst, the focus of Jagbir Singh will be network upgradation and expansion especially in priority 16 circles where the telco wants to gain new subscribers. The company is facing heightened competition in these circles from other players.
Prior to his appointment at Vodafone Idea, Jagbir Singh was the Group Chief Technology Information Officer at Indonesian-headquartered Smartfren Telecom. During his stint with Smartfren, Jagbir Singh was responsible for Network, IT /digital platforms and enterprise business.
He also worked as the Group Chief Technology Officer of Reliance Jio and helped it launch 4G services in the country. Before his stint with Reliance Jio, Jagbir Singh was working with Samsung, and he also worked with Airtel for about a decade.
Commenting on the appointment of Jagbir Singh, Vodafone and Idea CEO and MD Ravinder Takkar said the announcement is made following the resignation of Vishant and expressed his happiness that Jagbir Singh will be joining as the new Chief Technology Officer.
“Jagbir is a highly experienced telecom technology professional with over 30 years’ experience across India and South East Asia where he has been Group CTO with different telecom operators. He has led technology platforms across 4G LTE, 3G/2G, Data center, Open RAN, IP/MPLS, CDN, NFV/SDN, OSS/BSS for mobile, fixed line and enterprise networks,” said Vodafone and Idea CEO and MD Ravinder Takkar.
He also added Jagbir Singh is a very well-known Technology Leader and brings considerable credibility, reputation in the industry and deep operational expertise.
