Tesla Starts Hiring in India to Enhance Its Market Share

Billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. recently posted a bunch of job adverts on LinkedIn inviting candidates for around 13 roles. This is a tell-tale sign that the EV maker has plans to enter the Indian market.

These developments hold significance as PM Narendra Modi met Musk and Donald Trump just a week ago. Musk’s political interests and business go hand-in-hand as evident with the recent developments.

Earlier, Tesla remained disinterested due to concerns of high import duties, but now it seems keen to invest in India amid the rising demand for EV cars. Furthermore, the 40% drop in India’s custom duty on high-end cars priced over $40,000 should boost investor sentiments.

In comparison to China, India’s EV market is still in its budding stages. China had a turnover of 11 million unit sales last year as opposed to 100,000 electric cars sold in India.

Despite its lower EV sales record, India is still a potential market for Tesla to address its slowing sales. The EV maker witnessed this drop for the first time annually since a decade ago.

Consequently, Tesla is hiring talent for numerous roles including customer-facing and back-end jobs, according to a Bloomberg report. The 13 roles on offer include the following:

‘Tesla Advisor’, ‘Customer Support Specialist’, ‘Consumer Engagement Manager’, ‘Inside Sales Advisor’, ‘Service Manager’, ‘Order Operations Specialist’, ‘Delivery Operations Specialist’, ‘Store Manager’, ‘Business Operations Analyst’, ‘Parts Advisor’, ‘Service Advisor’, and ‘Customer Support Supervisor’.

The report suggests that at least five of the adverts including the service technician and advisory roles were applicable for both Mumbai and Delhi. However, the remaining openings like delivery operations specialist and customer engagement manager were restricted to Mumbai only.
