PM Modi Thanks Cyprus For Backing War On Pak Terror, Says ‘Will Work Together To Counter It’

London, NFAPost: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Cyprus on June 15, marking the start of his first foreign visit following Operation Sindoor. The visit is part of a three-nation tour for which Modi will next visit Canada for the G7 Summit and then Croatia.

During his meeting with Cypriot leaders, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the country’s continued support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

“We are grateful for Cyprus’ support. A mechanism for real-time information exchange between our agencies will be developed to counter terrorism, drug trafficking and arms smuggling,” he said.

Earlier, Cyprus conferred its highest civilian honour, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, on PM Modi. “Humbled to receive this honour. I dedicate it to the 1.4 billion people of India and the enduring India-Cyprus friendship,” the PM said.

Modi added, “Together, we will not only strengthen the progress of our countries but also contribute to a peaceful and secure world.” His next stops include key diplomatic engagements in Canada and Croatia.

Prime Minister Modi further said that India hopes to finalise a comprehensive free trade agreement with the European Union by the end of this year. Speaking during his official visit to Cyprus, Modi said there is vast potential in strengthening economic ties with the Mediterranean nation, which is set to hold the EU presidency in 2026.
