Pamman Attacked Iron Curtain Of Malayalee’s Hypocritical Morality With His Letters

On his birthday today, Malayalees remember him through his stories, novels and the beautiful songs flowed through the film characters born through the pen.

Pamman’s stories and novels, which fueled the pent-up passions of a generation, were criticized for being completely obscene and vulgar.

But he firmly belived that he has not written anything that is not the smell of life and that love and sex are the thirst, desire, passion and pleasure of human life.




Thiruvananthapuram / Kozhikode, NFAPost: P Parameswara Menon, known to Keralites as Pamman, was a writer who attacked the iron curtain of Malayalee’s hypocritical morality with his letters. From the point of view of the European missionaries who framed sex as a sin, Pamman helped through his works brought Keralites to the naturalness of the human mind, and that too to the flower bed of Indian thoughts.

Pamman’s stories and novels, which fueled the pent-up passions of a generation, were criticized for being completely obscene and vulgar. Pamman is a writer who justified his writings by standing on the firm footing that he has not written anything that is not the smell of life and that love and sex are the thirst, desire, passion and pleasure of human life.


He was an officer in the Western Railway and lived in Bombay for a long time in connection with his professional career. The allegation that his famous novel “Palath” is related to the life of writer Madhavikutty once created a huge controversy in the Malayalam literary world.

Pamman’s work like ‘Vashalan’ was very difficult to get for an avid reader at village libraries during those days. It is a literary work that was secretly read by those who openly opposed it. Pamman’s novels like Adimakal, Chattakari, Missy and Ammini Ammavan were made into movies. Later his novel Adimakal wasa titled as “Nizhal Nijamakirathu” in Tamil. It was remaked in Telunku as “Chilakamma Cheppindi”. In this, Adimakal and Chattakari were enriched with sweet songs by Vayalar-Devarajan team.

“Chenthamaram Thulasi Pichaka malakal charthi” became the all-time famous song sung by P. Sushila is still burning in the hearts of crores of people with devotion to Guruvayurappan. In addition to that, AM Raja’s famous song “Maneswari Mappu Tharu…Maneswari Mappu Tharu Marakkan Nikku Madiyanenkil mappu tharoo….” “Thazhampoo manamulla thanuppulla rathriyil rnichirunnurangunna cheruppakkari…..” Jayachandran sang famous song like “Indumukhi Indumukhi enthuninu nee sundhariyayi……” “Narayanam bhaje narayanam…….” The songs also gained a lot of popularity.


“Chattakari”, which told the story of Anglo Indian society, did not skimp on the songs. “Narayanaya nama….narayanaya nama…..” “is sung by (P Leela); “Madhasmeeranil ozhukiyozhikiyethum……..” (Yesudas) “July I love you……(Yesudas and Madhuri), “Yuvakkale yuvathikale……(Madhuri), “Love is just a round…… (Usha Uthuppu) etc were the songs which were part of the films based on Pumman novels later gained a lot of popularity.

Born on February 28, 1920 at Plamoot in Kollam district, P Parameswara Menon  was born and he was known across the globe as Pamman.  P Parameswara Menon passed away on June 3rd 2007. Today is his birthday. Pamman succeded in imparting to the teenage youth of the 70’s in thier mind and body the new world of sexual pleasures.

On his birthday, the beautiful songs flowed through the characters born through the pen of Pamman, a great writer of Kerala come to mind.
