Chennai / Coimbatore, NFAPost: Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru led a plastic waste clean-up drive on Saturday, walking 4 km from the railway station to the Government Botanical Garden via Lower Bazaar and Charing Cross.
Plastic waste was collected from commercial areas and tourist spots. Similar drives were held across the district by officials from various departments including police, forest, and rural development.

“The plastic clean up drive covered offices, markets, schools, colleges, hostels, health centres, and public places. Our initiative focussed on promoting alternatives to banned single-use plastics, such as aluminium foil, paper rolls etc,” said Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru.
Besides the govt departments, including the police, forest, tourism and rural development, plastic waste clean-up drive at , the plastic waste clean-up drive has an overwhelming participation of the public, private companies, NGOs, media etc. Pamphlets were distributed under the “Plastic-Free Tamil Nadu” initiative to raise awareness.
