JioHotstar premium service has drawn severe flak from its users for delivering subpar streaming quality. Affected users reportedly took to Twitter alleging that the OTT platform restricted content to 1080p with low frame rates and stereo sound. They accused the platform for limiting app users to just 25 FPS while exclusively offering 50 FPS to Jio Set-Top Box (STB) users.

Consequently, allegations of JioHotstar cheating its customers are making waves on the social media platform. Users are displeased about not getting their money’s worth for the premium they paid (Rs 1499) on the annual subscription. However, the same content is reportedly available in 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos outside India.
Previously, Hotstar had built a solid reputation for streaming high-quality content on its platform, including HBO originals. Now, speculation is rife that JioHotstar failed to secure proper digital rights for enhanced audio and video formats. Henceforth, frustrated users have admittedly resorted to piracy to access superior quality of content for which they paid for.
On the contrary, Prime Video continues to be a strong rival for JioHotstar in the Indian market. The platform showcases a huge collection of 4K HDR content with support for Dolby Vision and 5.1 surround. Consequently, it turns out to be an opportune moment for Amazon’s high-quality streaming service to capture a bigger market share.
JioHotstar is yet to comment or address these allegations. However, it’s imperative to improve its streaming services for protecting its loyal subscriber base.
