Bengaluru, NFAPost: The transformation of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India is unprecedented in the history of the free world said IBM Executive Director and Partner Prashobh Chandralayam on Thursday.
Speaking at the panel discussion on ‘Global Capability Centres: Growth Engine Driving the Next Wave of Economic Growth and Innovation’ at GIM Invest Karnataka 2025, he added that The most fascinating aspect is the scale and speed at which this growth is occurring.
“Cost, talent, and business impact are the three pillars driving this change, leading to rapid transformation and disruption. IBM’s technological intensity is possible because of India’s talent pool. The Karnataka government’s ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ initiative is game-changing, pushing us towards tier 2 and tier 3 cities,” said IBM Executive Director and Partner Prashobh Chandralayam.
Highlighting how students from premier institutions are assets to IBM, he stated they are well-trained and create magic for the company.
“Of the over 9,000 patents we filed, 30% come from India, particularly Bengaluru. Even AI advancements are happening in Bengaluru, thanks to the talent pool and technological intensity. A proactive government is aiding us,” said IBM Executive Director and Partner Prashobh Chandralayam.
Adding to the discussion, Sumit Gupta, GCC Leader at Cargill, said, 20% of the world’s food moves through Cargill’s supply chain. Our Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru plays a key role in our goal of feeding the world. Cargill has recognised Bengaluru’s capabilities; the talent here is incredible. Our success story aligns with Bengaluru’s deep capabilities.
Akash Jain, India Leader at CAT Digital, further added, “We always look for talent and are ready to expand beyond Bengaluru. Government-led upskilling initiatives have provided us with a good talent pool for CAT Digital. There’s been a significant change in the last 20 years, from being a BPO hub to a producer of products; we’ve unleashed the potential of this change.”
Dr. Ekroop Caur, Secretary of the Department of Electronics, IT, and BT, Government of Karnataka, emphasised the government’s initiatives and its schemes and programmes catering to GCCs. She emphasised the new GCC policy introduced by the Karnataka government and its potential to usher in growth and change.
