Speaking to TheNFAPost, Naveen Namboodiri said he felt he was honoured to have got the opportunity to shoot the cover song in such a historic location.
“I am indebted to the Elamkulam Mana family for having given me permission to shoot the song at their illam. I played the song to prominent singers like KS Chitra and Madhu Balakrishnan and both of them liked it. It is really an achievement in my life,” said Naveen Namboodiri.
Elamkulam Mana has a prominent place in the political landscape of Kerala and India as the birth place of E.M.S. Namboodiripad, the first communist leader in India to head a popularly elected government on 5th April, 1957. It was the second ever Communist government to be democratically elected, after Communist success in the 1945 elections in the Republic of San Marino, a microstate in Europe.
E M S Namboodiripad government introduced the Land Reform Ordinance and Education Bill. In 1958, a period of anticommunist protest, the Vimochana Samaram, began in response to the bills. The central government of India responded in 1959 by invoking Article 356 of the Indian Constitution, suspending state government and imposing President’s rule.
Born on 13 June 1909, as the fourth son of Parameswaran Namboodiripad and Vishnudatha Antharjanam, he began his political activities in 1934 as he was one of the founders of Congress Socialist Party, a socialist wing within the Indian National Congress, and elected as its All India Joint Secretary from 1934 to 1940.
He remained committed to socialist ideals and his compassion towards the working class led him to join the Communist Movement. He is one of the founders the Communist Part of India(CPI) in Kerala. When the CPI split in 1964, EMS stood with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). He served as a member of the Central Committee and and the Politburo of the CPI(M) until his death in 1998.

Kerala-born vocalist Naveen Namboodiri is now based out of Bengaluru and works for a public sector company. Music has been Naveen’s ruling passion as he has sung playback for the movie Panchapandavar released in the 90s. He has also performed over 1000 music concerts across India and abroad.
