Bengaluru is known for its cool and consistent weather throughout the year. Its recent temperature spikes, however, have set a new record overtaking Delhi’s extreme weather conditions.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the city is witnessing hotter days than the National Capital contrary to its reputation. Bengaluru’s temperature has soared by 2.7 degrees this year to reach 35.9 degrees Celsius on February 17. This is in stark contrast to its normal weather pattern, especially as Delhi recorded a maximum of just 27 degrees Celsius.
The Silicon City’s temperatures will continue to be cooler in the evenings with a low of around 17 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have cautioned that Bengaluru will see hotter days in the coming weeks, surpassing Delhi for now, the report added.
IMD forecasts an early onset of summer in Bengaluru, instead of early March as per the norm. The city recorded a high of 33 degrees Celsius on Sunday. This is 2.4 degrees Celsius more than the seasonal average, IMD adds.
India Meteorological Department reveals that various parts of Karnataka are also experiencing above-normal temperatures even before the onset of summer. North Interior Karnataka districts – Bagalkote, Gadag, Kalburgi, and Dharwad recorded unusually higher maximum temperatures. South Interior parts of Karnataka including Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Chintamani, Mandya, Davanagere, and Mysuru also witnessed above-normal temperatures.
