New Delhi, NFAPost: In an unprecedented move set to strengthen ties between India and Africa, the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) president and chairman of the World Trade Centre Mumbai, Dr Vijay Kalantri, will preside over the official launch of the groundbreaking AASGON 10,000 India-Africa Scholarship Awards on March 25, 2025, in New Delhi.
This historic event, taking place at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club (FCC) South Asia, will spotlight a bold new chapter in India-Africa relations. Abdul Dewale Mohammed, the visionary founder and president of AASGON (Africa Asia Scholars Global Network), is behind the initiative.

In a statement from AASGON’s UK headquarters, Abdul Dewale Mohammed emphasised that the scholarship programme marks a transformative leap towards bridging the ever-expanding Global North-South divide.
“This scholarship drive is a testament to AASGON’s unwavering commitment to fostering cooperation within the Global South, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s relentless advocacy for the empowerment of the Global South,” remarked AASGON Founder and President Abdul Dewale Mohammed.
This new initiative, seen as a game-changer, will offer 10,000 scholarships for African students across various academic levels — diplomas, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.
The goal
To build educational bridges, enhance skills for technology-driven growth, and ensure a brighter future for African nations. The programme is particularly significant in the context of India’s growing educational collaboration with Africa and will support students from all 55 African nations.
The scholarship launch aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s broader vision of global egalitarianism, a key aspect of India’s leadership on the global stage. It also mirrors India’s ongoing commitment to African development, showcased through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and Modi’s push for African Union membership in the G-20.
“The India-Africa Scholarship Awards will open doors for countless deserving students who otherwise might never have had the opportunity to study abroad,” said AASGON secretary-general Brijesh Mathur.
AASGON Founder and President Abdul Dewale Mohammed also said it is a step toward creating a future where education becomes the foundation of sustainable development for Africa.

Dr Sanjeev Seth, AASGON’s director of Educational Development, highlighted that the scholarships would not only provide academic opportunities but would also help build critical infrastructure and skills necessary to advance technological and socio-economic development across Africa.
A stellar lineup of dignitaries will be present at the launch event, including India’s Minister of External Affairs, heads of diplomatic missions, the dean of the African diplomatic Corps in India, the Minister of Education, the UN Resident Coordinator, and top officials from UNESCO, the British Council, and other educational bodies.
University vice-chancellors, industry leaders, and influential media personalities will also be in attendance, signalling the event’s significant impact on India-Africa relations.
As the March 25 launch draws near, the anticipation is palpable. This landmark event promises to be a pivotal moment for global education diplomacy and will lay the foundation for a new era of India-Africa cooperation.
Expressing happiness over the new initiative, AIAI President and Chairman of World Trade Centre Mumbai Dr Vijay Kalantri said the award function is just the beginning.
“As we are building a momentum towards India’s leadership role in shaping the future of the Global South, the India-Africa Scholarship Awards will play an essential part in realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision for an inclusive and equitable global order,” said AIAI President and Chairman of World Trade Centre Mumbai Dr Vijay Kalantri.
The March 25 event is just the beginning. AASGON will follow it with the much-anticipated Global South Universities Association (GSUA) Summit Awards and International Exhibition in London, from July 18-20, 2025, at the prestigious House of Lords and the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster.
