Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s personal details have been leaked online in a low-level hacking forum, according to the recent tweet by a security researcher as reported by Business Insider.
Several reports have claimed this information to be true. According to The Sun, the leaked data included Zuckerberg’s name, location, birth date, marriage details and Facebook user ID.
Earlier reports suggested that the personal details pertaining to more than 500 million Facebook users was leaked in the forum. This was confirmed by security researcher Dave Walker, who also pointed out that data of Facebook co-founders Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz were also found in the list comprising 533 million Facebook users’ data.
“Regarding the #FacebookLeak, of the 533M people in the leak – the irony is that Mark Zuckerberg is regrettably included in the leak as well,” Walker tweeted.
“This is old data that was previously reported on in 2019. We found and fixed this issue in August 2019,” a spokesperson told Business Insider on Sunday. They reportedly did not comment on the news about Zuckerberg’s leaked information.
The entire dataset of leaked personal info is now accessible to anyone with basic data skills for free through the hacking forum. A recent tweet on Saturday confirms that the leak was first spotted and reported by Alon Gal, CTO of cybercrime intelligence firm Hudson Rock.
In a previous incident of data leak on Facebook, personal details of more than 87 million Facebook users was obtained through privacy breach by the political data-analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.
At the time, Facebook was slapped a hefty fine of $5 billion by the Federal Trade Commission as part of a claim settlement alleging the company mishandled user data.
Following the revelations, the company has vowed to take stringent action on defaulting third-parties to prevent further privacy abuse on their platform that could lead to potential data breaches.
