Over 400 participants and 80+ projects highlight innovation across AI, digital infrastructure and deep-tech domains.
Bengaluru, NFAPost: International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore) hosted the 9th edition of its RISE Open House (Research, Innovation, Society and Entrepreneurship), bringing together students, researchers and industry professionals to showcase the institute’s latest advancements in technology and research.
The event served as a collaborative platform for innovation and knowledge exchange, offering participants insights into Ph.D. programmes, research opportunities and ongoing projects, while enabling direct interaction with faculty and research scholars.
More than 400 participants attended the event, which featured over 80 research projects spanning multiple domains, including artificial intelligence, data science, electronics, digital humanities and communication systems.
Focus on AI, Research and Collaboration
The open house included six specialised workshop sessions across departments such as Data Science and AI, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Digital Humanities. Sessions also highlighted initiatives like the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP), a globally recognised digital public infrastructure project developed at IIIT-Bangalore.
A key highlight was the keynote address by Google DeepMind Vice President – Engineering Anand Rangarajan, who spoke about the evolving role of humans in an AI-driven world.
“Artificial Intelligence is transforming every sector, but human involvement remains critical in shaping responsible and meaningful outcomes,” noted Google DeepMind Vice President – Engineering Anand Rangarajan during an interactive session with participants.
Internships and Industry Engagement
The event also announced over 28 summer internship opportunities, allowing participants to apply on-site, with selections to be made based on internal evaluation.
According to Vinod Reddy, part of the organising committee, the event aimed to address the changing dynamics of employment in the age of AI.
“As AI reshapes job opportunities, students and educators must adapt. Responsible adoption of AI—grounded in ethics, transparency and societal needs—is critical,” he said.
Driving Impactful Research
IIIT-Bangalore Director Debabrata Das highlighted the institute’s role in contributing to nationally significant initiatives, including collaborations with National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) on the TELEMANAS mental health project, and work on digital public infrastructure through centres such as COSS and CDPI.
“RISE Open House serves as an important platform to showcase our research, innovations and societal impact to the wider community,” said IIIT-Bangalore Director Debabrata Das.
