Bengaluru Serves Up a Grand Slam of Tennis Action: From Billie Jean King Cup to Bengaluru Open 2026

The city’s tennis season promises world-class action with the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs this November, followed by the landmark 10th edition of the Bengaluru Open and the KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100.

NFAPost, Bengaluru: Bengaluru is all set to take center stage in the global tennis calendar as the city readies itself for a blockbuster season of international tournaments. The SM Krishna Tennis Stadium will soon be buzzing with top-tier talent, hosting a trio of prestigious events that will shine a global spotlight on India’s tennis capital.

The action begins with the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs, scheduled from November 14–16, 2025, marking the first time India will host this elite women’s team event. The excitement will then carry into the new year with the 10th edition of the Bengaluru Open from January 5–11, 2026, followed later in the year by the KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100, one of Asia’s most significant women’s tennis tournaments.

“A golden moment for Karnataka tennis”

Expressing his enthusiasm, Shri Priyank M Kharge, Minister for IT/BT and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka, and Senior Vice President, KSLTA, said,

“These are exciting times for tennis in Karnataka. Very few cities have the opportunity to host events of this scale, and it’s a special moment for Bengaluru to welcome some of the world’s best players. I urge fans to come out, fill the stands, and show their support. It’s not every day you get to experience world-class tennis at your doorstep.”

Kharge’s words echo the sentiment of anticipation across Karnataka’s growing tennis community, as the state continues to strengthen its reputation as a global sporting hub.

Putting Bengaluru on the global tennis map

Adding to the excitement, Shri Maheshwar Rao, IAS, Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority and Hon. Secretary, KSLTA, emphasized the city’s growing legacy in tennis.

“Bengaluru has earned its place on the global tennis map, and this upcoming season is another milestone in that journey. Hosting the Billie Jean King Cup, the Bengaluru Open, and the ITF W100 showcases our city’s ability to bring together world-class talent and passionate fans.”

The Billie Jean King Cup Play-Offs will see Team India face off against Slovenia and the Netherlands for a coveted place in the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers.
India’s squad, led by captain Vishal Uppal and coach Radhika Kanitkar, includes Ankita RainaShrivalli BhamidipatySahaja YamalapalliPrarthana Thombare, and Riya Bhatia — all set to showcase their prowess on home soil.

International line-up: Slovenia and Netherlands bring world-class competition

The visitors will add strong international flavour to the Bengaluru leg of the Cup. Slovenia’s team features Tamara Zidanšek and Kaja Juvan, both established WTA players, while the Netherlands will be led by Arantxa Rus and doubles star Demi Schuurs.
Slovenia is expected to arrive in the city on November 7, followed by the Netherlands on November 9, setting the stage for a high-octane battle under Bengaluru’s November skies.

Bengaluru Open 2026: The city’s flagship ATP event

Following the Billie Jean King Cup, the Bengaluru Open will kick off the new year with its landmark 10th edition from January 5–11, 2026. Upgraded in 2025 to an ATP Challenger 125 event, the tournament now offers a prize purse of USD 235,000, making it one of India’s premier tennis events.

The tournament has consistently provided a platform for Indian players to make their mark. Past champions include Sumit Nagal (2017) and Prajnesh Gunneswaran (2018), while Ramkumar Ramanathan has clinched the doubles crown three times. The most recent edition saw Anirudh Chandrasekar team up with Ray Ho of Chinese Taipei to lift the doubles trophy.

KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100: Powering women’s tennis

Later in 2026, Bengaluru will once again host the KPB Trust Women’s Open ITF W100, a USD 100,000 tournament that continues to champion women’s tennis and entrepreneurship. Sponsored by the KPB Family Trust, led by Mr. K.P. Balraj, the event has become a cornerstone in India’s tennis calendar.

The 2025 edition witnessed Germany’s Tatjana Maria capture the singles crown, while the American duo Jessi Annieand Jessica Failla triumphed in doubles.

“We are proud to support women athletes and entrepreneurs alike,” Mr. Balraj said earlier this year. “Through the ITF W100, we want to create opportunities for women to thrive, both on and off the court.”
