At Kevadia, Gujarat, the Prime Minister pays tribute to the “Iron Man of India” with commemorative releases and major development initiatives symbolising unity, sustainability, and national pride.
NFAPost, Bengaluru: On the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s “Iron Man” and architect of national unity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a tribute rich in both symbolism and substance. In a ceremony held at Kevadia—home to the towering Statue of Unity—the Prime Minister unveiled a ₹150 commemorative coin and a special postage stampcelebrating Patel’s enduring legacy, alongside inaugurating and launching development projects worth ₹1,219 croreacross Gujarat.
A Nation’s Tribute in Metal and Ink
The commemorative coin, valued at ₹150, and the specially issued postage stamp mark Patel’s sesquicentennial year as a defining moment in modern Indian history. The releases, officials said, are intended not merely as collectables but as enduring emblems of the unity Patel forged through vision, will, and administrative acumen.
“Every Indian feels proud of Sardar Patel’s life and legacy,” Prime Minister Modi said at the event. “His iron resolve gave us one India, and it is our duty to strengthen that unity with the same spirit of service and sacrifice.”
Development with Legacy: ₹1,219 Crore Projects in Gujarat
In addition to the commemorative releases, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for an array of development projects worth ₹1,219 crore, underscoring the government’s twin focus on sustainability and tourism infrastructure in Gujarat.
Among the initiatives:
- Launch of an electric bus fleet to promote clean and efficient public transport in and around Kevadia.
- Tourism and hospitality infrastructure projects, including a dedicated hospitality district designed to enhance visitor experience near the Statue of Unity.
- Inauguration of a Bonsai Garden and green spaces, integrating ecological awareness into the region’s tourism circuit.
Cultural programmes, patriotic performances, and a ceremonial tribute accompanied the formal proceedings, bringing together citizens, students, and officials in a celebration of Patel’s unifying spirit.
Patel’s Vision: “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel remains one of India’s foremost nation-builders, credited with the political and diplomatic consolidation of over 500 princely states into the Indian Union post-independence. His legacy continues to inspire successive generations toward the ideal of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”—One India, Great India.
By combining commemorative symbolism with tangible development initiatives, the government signalled that Patel’s vision is not confined to history but continues to guide India’s present and future.
Unity Cast in Metal, Built in Action
The celebrations at Kevadia encapsulated a continuum—between remembrance and progress, reverence and renewal. As the coin and stamp immortalise Patel’s memory, the accompanying projects aim to turn that legacy into living infrastructure for the people.
In the words of the Prime Minister, “Sardar Patel’s strength lay not only in uniting India’s territory but in uniting its spirit. As we honour him today, we must continue building a nation that reflects his courage, discipline, and resolve.”
