New Delhi, NFAPost: Setting new agenda in India’s march to become a global powerhouse, Narendra Modi took as the Prime Minister of India for a third straight term.
The NDA won 286 seats in this election, and the BJP won 240 seats, falling short of the 272 majority mark. By swearing in as the Prime Minister for the third time he equalled the record of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who won in the 1952, 1957 and 1962 general elections.
Narendra Modi is swon in as the Prime Minister along with with 72 ministers after National Democratic Alliance won 18th Lok Sabha election. BJP had won 303 and 282 seats respectively in 2019 and 2014, respectively, to have a majority on its own.
After Narendra Modi, senior leaders like Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari also took oath on Sunday alongside other Cabinet Ministers Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Rajeev Ranjan Singh, Sarbanand Sonowal and Dr Virendra Kumar.
Two MPs each from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the BJP in Andhra Pradesh, where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, took oath. Several leaders, including TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrashekhar, JD(S)‘s H.D. Kumaraswamy, BJP’s Sarbananda Sonowal have been inducted into the Cabinet.
Before the swearing-in, Narendra Modi held a meeting of ministers probable over tea. The Prime Minister has been following the custom of hosting tea meet before the Cabinet formation since 2014.
“Whatever work will be assigned to you, do that sincerely and be humble as people love those who are humble. At the same time never compromise on probity and transparency,” said Narendra Modi.
Modi also told the elected representatives to give respect and dignity to all MPs, irrespective of their parties.
Tesla and X owner Elon Musk has congratulated Narendra Modi on being elected as the Prime Minister of India for the third term. In a post on his X timeline, Musk said he looks forward to his companies doing exciting work in India.
“Congratulations Narendra Modi on your victory in the world’s largest democratic elections! Looking forward to my companies doing exciting work in India,” Elon Musk wrote on X on Friday.
