Bengaluru, NFAPost: In a landmark move, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has inked a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), heralding a new era of innovation in the space sector through the power of cloud computing.
Director and Chief Technologist of Public Sector at AWS India and South Asia, Shalini Kapoor, underscored the transformative potential of cloud-based technologies in revolutionizing the space industry. By expediting decision-making processes and pushing technological boundaries, AWS is poised to guide startups in identifying crucial use cases, catalyzing solution development, and nurturing a specialized talent pool in India dedicated to cloud and space technologies.
This collaboration will grant space startups, research institutions, and students unprecedented access to cutting-edge cloud technologies, paving the way for swift progress in space-related solutions. Cloud computing will play a pivotal role in managing vast quantities of raw space data while supporting artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and analytics workloads, all in a remarkably cost-effective manner.
In a bid to foster and amplify the startup ecosystem within the space-tech domain, ISRO, IN-SPACe, and AWS will join forces. AWS, through its AWS Activate program, will extend critical support to eligible space startups, offering indispensable tools, resources, and expert technical guidance at no cost. This initiative aims to expedite the development and commercialization of innovative space solutions. Moreover, startups will gain invaluable access to AWS’s global expertise in constructing aerospace and satellite solutions through the AWS Space Accelerator program.
Vinod Kumar, Director of the Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe, emphasized the strategic significance of harnessing space technology and cloud computing to propel India’s space sector to unprecedented heights. Following the triumphant Chandrayaan-3 moon landing and the Aditya L-1 mission, this collaboration underscores India’s resolute commitment to empowering and bolstering the private space sector. It sets forth a vision to unlock the boundless potential of space technology and cloud computing for the betterment of India and the global space community.
