Bengaluru, NFAPost: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to take on the role of a bus conductor on June 11 to launch the ‘Shakti’ scheme, a program that offers free travel to women on state-run buses. This initiative is one of the five promises made by the Congress party prior to the assembly elections.
Sources reveal that the Chief Minister will board a BMTC bus and distribute free tickets to women passengers in order to inaugurate the project in the state capital. Simultaneously, ministers and legislators will also kickstart the services in their respective districts and constituencies.
In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office, Siddaramaiah has instructed the district in-charge ministers and legislators to ensure the widespread reach of the Shakti scheme, emphasizing that it should benefit all eligible beneficiaries regardless of caste, religion, or class.
Siddaramaiah was quoted as saying, “All the district ministers shall swing into action to make the launch of the scheme meaningful.” He further mentioned that the Shakti scheme brings relief to women in the state who have been struggling with rising prices and inflation.
Despite the significant financial requirements, the state government is committed to implementing all guaranteed schemes within one month of assuming power, added Siddaramaiah.
