Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences; and Minister of State for PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, spoke at the three-day World Congress of “Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics 2023” (DTechCon 2023) as the chief guest. The Minister emphasized that India is ready to lead technology-driven diabetes care, citing the country’s success in handling the pandemic and advancements in healthcare technology and human resources.
Dr Singh noted that India has become more tech-savvy in recent years, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who promotes science and technology innovations. The Minister credited the PM with the surge in StartUps from around 350 to over 90,000 with over 100 unicorns, placing India at number three in the world’s startup ecosystem. Dr Singh also highlighted the increase in Biotech StartUps from around 50 in 2014 to nearly 6,000 today and the emergence of more than 100 StartUps in the Space sector within just three years due to the PM’s opening up of the sector for private participation.
Dr Singh also praised the National Quantum Mission’s recent launch, which will enhance medical diagnosis and treatment. He stated that India is one of the few countries in the world to have launched a National Quantum Mission. The Minister also commended the country’s Telemedicine StartUps, which have developed AI doctors, citing the example of ‘Doctor on Wheels,’ a telemedicine van that provided consultations in 60 remote villages.
In addition, Dr Singh lauded Prime Minister Modi’s high priority on healthcare, particularly during the pandemic. He stressed that the prevention of diabetes is essential for nation-building, as 70% of the country’s population is below 40 years old, and the youth of today are the future of India.
Dr Banshi Saboo and his team received congratulations from the Minister for their conceptualization of the conference. Dr Tadej Battelino, Chair ATTD, agreed that India’s healthcare technology advancements are far more rapid than those of other countries.
DTechCon 2023 is a global conference dedicated to the latest developments in diabetes technology and therapeutics, featuring workshops and hands-on training for a deeper understanding of insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, Point of Care, and futuristic therapy.
