Bengaluru, NFAPost: On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) has received a nod from the Karnataka Government to build the Karnataka Skill Connect Portal (KSCP).
Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) will bring together an integrated digital platform that will connect academic institutions, recognized and empanelled skilling agencies, potential workforce, and potential employers.
KDEM will act as a knowledge bridge to the department of skill development and provide industry collaborations to enhance the portal’s engagement effectively amongst all its stakeholders. KDEM will support the department of skill development with advisory and program management services to successfully build the KSCP platform.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai, along with Karnataka Minister for Higher Education, IT, BT, & ST, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship & Livelihood Dr. C N Ashwath Narayan, Karnataka Dept of Electronics, IT BT S&T ACS E V Ramana Reddy and KDEM Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Gupta unveiled a short video of the online platform – KSCP.
The portal will allow aspiring students to identify their skill gaps, enroll in training programs delivered by certified training providers and use the certifications obtained to apply for jobs available on the portal.
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said Karnataka is the hub of innovation and start-ups in the country.
“For us to be recognised on a global platform, we need to build a skilled workforce which can only be achieved if the youth of our state are provided with the right training and skillset. Establishing platforms such as the Karnataka Skill Connect Portal is a step in this direction as institutions, skilling agencies, and employers, all converge to provide easy access for potential candidates to address any skills gap and also enable the academia and talent for future digital jobs,” said Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
He also said this reinforces the government’s commitment towards creating jobs for all and empowering the youth to enable employment to redefine the state’s contribution to the nation’s growth.
Karnataka Electronics, IT BT S&T Minister C N Ashwathnarayan said the state has been at the forefront leading the charge for creating a holistic startup ecosystem for the industries to thrive.
“A platform like KSCP will help strengthen a thriving ecosystem driving Karnataka’s digital economy thereby playing a significant role in contributing to the nation’s growth. In a bid to encourage and increase employment while stimulating talent, we aim at furthering skill development initiatives in the technology space for the youth to create a robust start-up ecosystem,” said Karnataka Electronics, IT BT S&T Minister C N Ashwathnarayan.
Commenting on this, Karnataka Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Additional Chief Secretary Dr. S Selva Kumar said Karnataka is leading the charts for providing a favourable ecosystem for the talent to learn and grow because of the state’s unwavering commitment to bridge the skill gap in order to transform the lives of the people.
“This platform by KSDC is a stride in this direction and to leverage our position globally in reinforcing talent building, stimulating entrepreneurship and innovation throughout Karnataka,” said Karnataka Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Additional Chief Secretary Dr. S Selva Kumar.
Karnataka Department of Skill Development Managing Director Ashwin Gowda said on behalf of Karnataka Skill Development Corporation, it gives immense pleasure to introduce KSCP, the platform will aid in the department’s journey of aligning the activities of KSDC with the Skill India Mission to empower the youth of Karnataka and enable their employment.
“We are very hopeful of enabling an enriching platform to the ascending start-up environment of Karnataka and ensure the state’s competitiveness in the global market,” said Karnataka Department of Skill Development Managing Director Ashwin Gowda.
KDEM Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Gupta added as Karnataka marches ahead in its journey of creating a robust digital and start-up ecosystem, the KDEM and the department of skill development will work in tandem to increase employability and create relevant skill training programs that suit industry requirements through the KSCP.
“KDEM will act as an industry guide to the department of skill development, bringing in technology, best practices, and process-based support for meeting the objectives of skilling programs in the state of Karnataka while providing the industry with access to skilled and trained manpower,” said KDEM Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Gupta.
The KSCP will showcase unique features for job seekers, universities, industry, and training service providers that will make it a holistic platform. The portal will offer an AI-based career guidance service, helping candidates assess their existing skills and define jobs and skills they aspire for. Based on the assessment, the portal will identify the candidates’ skills gap and suggest relevant training programs to bridge the gaps and strengthen potential employment opportunities.
About Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM)
With an objective to increase the share of Digital economy in the state, the Government of Karnataka set up the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), a Section-8 organization, which acts as a knowledge bridge between the industry and the government. To meet the objectives, KDEM has been working towards the five focus areas, viz. IT Products & Services, BPM & GCC promotion; Innovations & Start-ups; ESDM; Beyond Bengaluru; and Talent Accelerator.
The Beyond Bengaluru Program
The Beyond Bengaluru program of KDEM, in particular, is spearheading the objective of proliferating the growth of the digital economy in clusters beyond Bangalore. This is done to select identified clusters in the state by developing and facilitating a product-based ecosystem. Building a community of key industry players, entrepreneurs, start-up owners, academia, accelerators, and the student community, the Beyond Bengaluru program of KDEM is steering towards getting investments and generating employment in the State.
