London, NFAPost: Indian Heritage Centre UK (IHC UK) celebrated International Yoga Day at Cardiff, Wales (UK) with an overwhelming participation of Indian diaspora and citizens from Cardiff.
The celebration of Yoga at Cardiff assumes significance as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a new dimension to popularise yoga across the world.
The occasion was graced by guests like His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Mrs Meredith, Rt Hon High Sheriff of South Glamorgan Mrs Janey Howell, Capt Raj Agarawal, OBE, Honorary Consul of India Wales Dr Hamasaraj Shetty, MBE Consultant in Stroke Medicine in Cardiff Cllr Gary Hunt (Llanishen Councillor), Prof Kumar from India Wales Club and Sikh Council of Wales representative Gurmeet Singh Randwa.
Speaking at the event, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Mrs Meredith lauded the efforts of Indian Heritage Centre UK in bringing the people together from all walks of life in the society promoting health & wellbeing, peace & harmony.
“I am happy that Indian Heritage Centre UK is popularising Yoga Day at a time when humanity is going through all kinds of stress in life, both work pressure and being a social being. Here, keeping a safe health is of paramount importance for any individual. The knowledge dessiminated by Yoga really has the healing power and help us to lead a balanced life,” said His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Mrs Meredith.
Expressing happiness over participating at the event, Honorary Consul of India Wales Dr Hamasaraj Shetty said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led in promoting Yoga worldwide.
“Yoga is the heritage of India and its being practiced with renewed vigour in the country. I am happy that Western culture has now also adopted it. Yoga not only makes your body flexible but also gives peace to the soul. Yoga is a way to keep yourself healthy,” said Honorary Consul of India Wales Dr Hamasaraj Shetty.
Other guests also addressed the audience appreciating the efforts of Indian Heritage Centre UK in bringing people together from all walks of life in society promoting health, wellbeing, peace and harmony.
Dr Ravindra Ravi and Ms Riya Kale anchored the event seamlessly emphasised that the Indian community in Wales are making a lot of efforts in promoting the rich culture and heritage of Indian’s way of life and also contributing to the economy in Wales.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ravindra Ravi said during the last 10 years, the expansion of Yoga has changed the perception related to Yoga.
“Yoga is India’s unique gift to humanity. In view of rising lifestyle related problems, Yoga has become far more important today. Yoga is a way to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Let us resolve to adopt yoga as an integral part of our day-to-day living,” said Dr Ravindra Ravi.
Ms Riya Kale briefed on the significance of Yoga linked to ancient Indian Culture on Health, Harmony & Peace. Dr Girish G, a well known multilingual singer, did sing a melodious prayer song at the beginning of the cultural performances by the students of Rekha Natya Academy in Cardiff lead by Rekha Girish.
Prior to the cultural performances, Rekha Girish facilitated the Yoga Session which was well-appreciated by the attendees. IHC UK were encouraged to conduct regular Yoga Sessions.
The event was also attended by Dr Somashekar, Dr Mallikarjun Reddy, Dr Yashodhar, Dr Deepak Megeri, Hiren Joshi and Tejashree Joshi were involved in managing the overall event. India Heritage Centre UK Founder & CEO Adv Mrs Tripti Megeri conveyed the vote of thanks with the special mention to the audience and children who participated in the event.
