New Delhi / Mumbai / Bengaluru, NFAPost: World Motorcycle Day celebration reached its zenith as Bollywood actor John Abraham led bandwagon along with others as the largest market for two-wheelers in the world celebrated the event making a positive impact across the country.
Piaggio Vehicles, the subsidiary of the Italian Piaggio Group and maker of the Vespa and sporty Aprilla range of two-wheelers, set the ball rolling during the World Motorcycle Day celebration along with its brand ambassador Johan Abraham.
“It’s a beautiful coincidence that World Music Day and World Motorcycle Day fall on the same day and both form an integral part of my life. There’s no better music to my ears than the sound of my motorcycle’s engine and what better sound than that of my Italian machines. The roar of Aprilia’s engine and the rhythm of its music is what gets me going,” said Bollywood actor John Abraham.
According to Arvian Research, motorcycles provide an affordable and efficient form of transportation for many people in India.
“Motorcycles are considered as the most convenient mode of transportation in urban and rural areas. The two-wheeler sales in India increased by 9.12% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) to 17.075 million units in 2023 as the rural market continues to recover,” states Arvian Research.
Talking to TheNFAPost on World Motorcycle Day, motorcycle rental platform Royal Brothers Founder Abhishek said in addition to being a convenient way to get around, motorcycles offer a sense of freedom and adventure that only those who ride can understand.
“In a country like India where aspirational people are ready to spend their money to test high-end vehicles and go for long drives. Royal brothers is finding more traction in all cities where we are present,” said Royal Brothers Founder Abhishek.
With their low cost and easy maintenance, motorcycles are viewed as a mode of transportation for Indians where the purchasing power is growing. It is also often seen as an eco-friendly alternative to cars.
Expressing his happiness about owning a BMW motorbike, Chief Financial Officer Abhnand said he still cherishes the day he purchased his BMW motorbike.
“I love riding on it both in the city and long haul rides with friends. I have travelled with my BMW motorcycle even to my native in Kozhikode (Kerala). I believe I will enjoy a lot more travels in Karnataka,” said Abhinand.
It is a fact that the fuel efficiency of some modern motorcycle models rivals that of even the most efficient vehicles. In India homegrown companies like Hero MotorCorp, TVS, Royal Enfiled, and Bajaj are competing with global giants like Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Honda, KTM, Benelli India etc.
Commenting on his perspective, a passionate journalist turned farm experimenter Sivakumar said another reason why World Motorcycle Day is celebrated is due to how motorcycling has become increasingly popular in recent years.
“This surge in popularity has been attributed to riders being able to participate in sport touring, long-distance touring, track days, and off-road activities. Motorcycling has quickly become a way for people of all ages to experience adventure and the open road,” said Shivakumar.
To mark World Motorcycle Day this year, many motorcycle owners will take their bikes out on the open road for a ride. They may also hold events such as rides and rallies or even organize trips worldwide on motorcycles.
For those who don’t have one yet, plenty of motorcycle rental companies are available to get you out on the open road too. Commenting on the rental company role, Naveen Namboothiri said owning a premium bike like Royal Enfield, Duke KTM or Harley Davidson can cost a lot.
“Such people like the concept of renting a bike and taking the ride whenever needed. To stand out from their competitors, the companies have started providing related rental services for products such as biker jackets, gloves, cameras, gears etc. Not only for travelling purposes, but people are also opting for bike rental services for personal and work commute as well,” said Naveen Namboothiri.
The Indian motorcycle market will continue to grow in the coming years, driven by the expansion of the middle class and the introduction of new models. The increasing popularity of electric motorcycles will contribute to the market’s growth.
