Bengaluru, NFAPost: In a significant move signaling the growing prominence of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India, renowned healthcare company Philips recently inaugurated its expansive innovation campus in Bengaluru. Situated in the Embassy business hub in Yelahanka, the 650,000 square-foot facility stands as one of Philips’ largest campuses in the country and is poised to accommodate up to 5,000 professionals.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, underscored the pivotal role the Philips innovation campus is expected to play in the company’s global digital transformation. CM Siddaramaiah expressed his appreciation for Philips’ longstanding contribution to the Karnataka ecosystem over the past 27 years, highlighting the campus’s dedication to crafting healthcare solutions that positively impact lives worldwide.
The Bengaluru innovation hub is strategically positioned to drive Philips’ digital initiatives not only within India but on a global scale. CM Siddaramaiah emphasized the state’s emergence as a healthcare hub, boasting a robust ecosystem encompassing research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and healthcare providers.
“The startup ecosystem in Karnataka comprises numerous healthcare and life sciences startups focusing on innovative solutions, including digital health, personalized medicine, and novel drug discovery,” Siddaramaiah stated, emphasizing the state’s commitment to fostering innovation.
Acknowledging Karnataka’s role as a preferred investment destination, the Chief Minister outlined various initiatives and industry-friendly policies aimed at enhancing the healthcare ecosystem. These include the Bengaluru Bio-innovation Centre (BBC), the Karnataka biotechnology policy, and bio-venture funds to support startups. Karnataka’s proactive stance on ease of doing business was underscored, with the state achieving the ‘Top Achiever’ rank in 2022.
“Realigning talent to match current growth trends, providing improved infrastructure facilities, enhancing the ease of doing business, and branding Karnataka as a global innovation hub are some of our government’s priorities,” said CM Siddaramaiah. He highlighted the state’s dedication to simplifying regulatory processes, positioning it as an ‘end-to-end ecosystem’ for innovation and business growth.
Roy Jakobs, CEO of Philips, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovative health technologies designed to enhance patient experiences, improve health outcomes, and reduce the cost of care. The Bengaluru innovation campus is poised to be a digital powerhouse, contributing not only to Philips’ evolution but also solidifying Karnataka’s position as a leader in healthcare and technology innovation.
