NSIL Joins Hands with Tata Play to Successfully Launch GSAT-24: A New Era of Enhanced Bandwidth Unveiled for Improved Channel Capacity and Unparalleled Signal Reception Quality.
Bengaluru, NFAPost: In a significant stride aligned with the Make in India vision, Tata Play (formerly known as Tata Sky) and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) jointly introduced the GSAT-24 satellite in June 2022. This groundbreaking partnership aims to revolutionize the realm of satellite television, providing users with heightened picture and sound quality, along with an impressive 50% increase in channel capacity. The deployment of GSAT-24 positions Tata Play as the leading satellite bandwidth provider among Direct-to-Home (DTH) platforms.
Today marks a historic milestone as Tata Play begins utilizing GSAT-24’s capabilities from its orbital position. The inauguration event, held at Tata Play’s Broadcast Centre in New Delhi’s Chhatarpur, was graced by the presence of distinguished personalities. Shri. Apurva Chandra, Secretary Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, lauded the successful commissioning of GSAT-24, emphasizing its contribution to India’s self-reliance in space and communication.
Shri. S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), underscored the groundbreaking nature of GSAT-24, a 4-tonne communication satellite designed to enhance DTH services. The satellite’s successful deployment signifies India’s prowess in telecommunications and technology, embodying the essence of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and establishing a strong foothold in the Demand Driven Mission domain.
Shri. Radhakrishnan Durairaj, Chairman and Managing Director of NSIL, hailed GSAT-24 as a testament to the success of the Make In India initiative. This satellite holds the distinction of being the first Demand Driven communication satellite mission undertaken by NSIL post-space sector reforms. Its advanced digital TV transmission capabilities are poised to redefine satellite television in India, marking a pivotal achievement for domestic broadcasting services.
Tata Play’s MD & CEO, Harit Nagpal, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the viewing experience. The collaboration with NSIL is set to elevate the quality of video and audio for DTH subscribers while expanding the array of channels and services offered. Nagpal reiterated Tata Play’s dedication to the Make in India ethos, which has been showcased through its reliance on domestically produced satellites.
GSAT-24, a 24-Ku band communication satellite, was commissioned exclusively to cater to the DTH application needs of Tata Play. The commercial arm of the Department of Space (DOS), NSIL, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this transformative project. The entirety of GSAT-24’s satellite capacity has been leased to Tata Play, cementing a strong and strategic partnership between the two entities.
