Bengaluru, NFAPost: In a significant development, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) have jointly released a consultation paper focused on Earth Observation (EO) data derived from Indian Satellite Missions. The primary objective of this paper is to collaborate on formulating a comprehensive master plan for EO data, catering to future data requirements, and actively engaging Indian Non-Government entities in the manufacturing of Remote Sensing Satellites.
With a clear vision of achieving self-reliance (आत्मनिर्भर) in the EO sector and positioning India as a leading global geospatial service provider, IN-SPACe and ISRO have conducted an in-depth analysis of the current availability of datasets from Indian satellite missions. The findings of this analysis form the basis of the consultation paper, which has now been made public.
The EO sector has experienced significant advancements in recent decades, offering invaluable insights derived from high-resolution satellite data that provide a comprehensive understanding of Earth and its dynamic processes. ISRO, as a pioneer in the field, has led technological breakthroughs in optical, microwave, stereo, and hyperspectral Satellite Missions. This progress is evident through its esteemed fleet of Indian Remote Sensing Satellites, including the acclaimed series of IRS, Resourcesat, Cartosat, Oceansat, and RISAT satellites.
The released consultation paper meticulously describes the current state of EO data from Indian Missions, identifies the projected data demands, and outlines future requirements. Of particular interest is the plan to realize additional satellite constellations, which hold the potential to revolutionize Earth Observation capabilities.
Key stakeholders, both within India and internationally, are encouraged to actively participate in this transformative initiative. IN-SPACe and ISRO are eager to receive thoughts and feedback on the consultation paper from interested parties. To facilitate this, a dedicated digital platform has been set up at www.inspace.gov.in. The deadline for submitting feedback is set for August 31, 2023.
With this ambitious initiative, India’s EO sector aims to stride confidently towards self-sufficiency while making a mark as a global leader in geospatial services. The collaborative efforts of IN-SPACe and ISRO promise to unlock new frontiers in Earth Observation and pave the way for a more informed and sustainable future.
