Tech Mogul Elon Musk Unveils Twitter’s Bold New ‘X’ Logo, Bid Farewell to the Beloved Bird Icon
Bengaluru, NFAPost: In a bold move that has taken the social media world by storm, tech magnate Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has revealed his ambitious plan to rebrand the popular platform as “X” – an all-encompassing “everything app.” The announcement, made on July 23rd, signifies Musk’s determination to transform Twitter into a versatile platform reminiscent of China’s multi-functional WeChat application. This comes after Musk’s acquisition of Twitter for a staggering $44 billion, during which he described the platform as a pivotal stepping stone towards realizing his vision for “X.”
The transformation is marked by the replacement of Twitter’s iconic bird logo with a simple yet striking white ‘X’ set against a black background. Even Twitter’s official account, formerly known as “@Twitter,” has been rebranded as ‘X,’ with the profile picture now featuring the new logo and a captivating bio that reads, “What’s happening?!”
Despite the rebranding, mobile apps currently retain the blue bird logo, but it is expected to change with upcoming updates. Similarly, other Twitter-affiliated accounts, such as those of creators and verification, have already undergone the transition to the ‘X’ logo, though some, including the main support account “@TwitterSupport,” are yet to follow suit at the time of writing.
Elon Musk’s fascination with the letter “X” seems to have played a significant role in the rebranding decision. Upon assuming the role of Twitter’s CEO, Musk swiftly changed the site’s legal name to “X Corp.” This letter has a prominent presence in Musk’s other ventures as well, notably in the names of his spacecraft engineering company, SpaceX, and Tesla’s revolutionary SUV model, the Model X, launched in 2015.
While the rebranding certainly carries aesthetic significance, its true purpose lies in Musk’s grand vision for an “everything app.” Drawing inspiration from China’s WeChat, which boasts a comprehensive range of services, Musk envisions transforming Twitter into a versatile platform that empowers users to do much more than just communicate. With aspirations of integrating functions like payment services and hotel bookings, the proposed transformation could reshape the way millions of users interact with the platform.
As the ‘X’ logo takes centre stage, the domain X.com now redirects users to Twitter, further cementing the transition and signalling the start of an exciting new chapter in Twitter’s history.
Musk’s ambitious rebranding has sparked widespread interest and curiosity, leaving millions of users eager to witness the evolution of the platform. While mobile app updates and further logo transitions are expected, the real transformation lies in the potential that this “everything app” concept holds, as Twitter takes a daring leap towards a multi-functional future.
