Bengaluru, NFAPost: Shreyas Hosur, an Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer belonging to the 2012 batch of Civil Services, currently posted as Senior Divisional Finance Manager in Bangalore, has achieved a rare double feat that has made Indian Railways proud.
On July 2, 2023, Shreyas Hosur completed the IRONMAN 140.6 triathlon (the toughest single day sporting event in the world, a gruelling endurance event which consists of race consisting of 3.8 km Swim, a 180 km Bike ride, and a full marathon run of 42.2 km) in Astana, Kazakhstan, in 15 hours and 35 mins.
Not content with one extraordinary accomplishment, Shreyas Hosur then went to Almaty in Kazakhstan and participated in the OCEANMAN open water swimming event on July 8, 2023.
The OCEANMAN is a series of swimming events conducted across the world which tests an athlete’s swimming skills and stamina in open water. Over 600 swimmers from across the world participated in the event. Shreyas Hosur completed the 5 km swim event in 1 hour and 35 minutes. The event cut short from the original 10 km distance due to adverse weather conditions.
His achievement goes beyond personal triumph. Shreyas Hosur is the first civil servant in India to conquer the IRONMAN 140.6 and THE OCEANMAN titles within a span of week.
By flying India’s flag high on the international stage, Shreyas Hosur has not only achieved a personal feat, but has also exemplified the potential that lies within the Indian Railways and the Indian Civil Service.
It may be recalled that Shreyas Hosur completed the grueling ‘IRONMAN’ Triathlon, considered to be the toughest single-day sports event in the world on June 7th in Hamberg Germay. He is the first Railway Officer and the first officer from the non-uniformed civil services to achieve this fete.
