Bengaluru, NFAPost: In a world where acts of kindness and selflessness are often overshadowed by chaos and negativity, a unique and inspiring initiative called S.A.V.E is making its mark. S.A.V.E, an acronym for ‘Serve and Value Every Life,’ is a voluntary life-saving engine that aims to bring about positive change in multiple ways. With its three wings, Red Saviours, Mind Warriors, and Animal Carers, S.A.V.E strives to create a profound impact on society and foster a sense of compassion and empathy among individuals.
Founded on the belief that anything divine cannot be charged, S.A.V.E operates as a zero-funded, non-profit organization that welcomes anyone in need. It provides a platform for individuals to volunteer and contribute to various causes right from their homes too. The tagline of S.A.V.E, “A good deed is like a seed,” encapsulates the essence of this extraordinary initiative.
The first wing of S.A.V.E, Red Saviours, focuses on physically saving lives by addressing critical blood and blood component needs. Understanding the urgency and importance of blood donation, Red Saviours facilitates live donor support, ensuring a one-to-one donor-to-patient connection. Through their unique concept of blood coordination and first-of-its-kind initiatives, they coordinate and render live donations for thalassemia and cancer patients, primarily for kids in government hospitals. Additionally, S.A.V.E promotes stem cell, eye, and organ donation, emphasizing the significance of these life-saving acts.
The second wing, Mind Warriors, acknowledges the crucial role mental health plays in our overall well-being. By providing mental health support to individuals in need, Mind Warriors aims to make a difference in the lives of people grappling with mental health issues. Through its unique concept of anonymous counselling, telephonic, in-person counselling, trauma handling, and suicide prevention efforts, this wing offers a compassionate space for those seeking help. Furthermore, Mind Warriors conducts value education sessions for children, fostering their personal and emotional development through innovative activities that enhance communication and life skills. They also provide career guidance to students and offer unique learning techniques for subjects like math and programming. The third wing, Animal Carers, recognizes the importance of preserving and protecting all life forms. Animal Carers focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating injured animals and birds. Serving as a comprehensive platform, this wing connects individuals who find distressed animals in Bengaluru with appropriate rehabilitation centres. Moreover, Animal Carers actively promotes awareness about animal welfare, educates the public about the do’s and don’ts of handling animals in distress, and encourages the adoption and fostering of rescued animals. By advocating for animal rights and supporting conservation efforts, Animal Carers demonstrates the profound impact of even small acts of kindness.
Since its inception, S.A.V.E has achieved remarkable milestones and positively impacted numerous lives. Red Saviours has successfully facilitated critical blood and blood component donations, saving countless lives. Their initiative SDP Extra Mile has aided more than 100 cancer patients, particularly kids in Government hospitals through live platelet donations. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Red Saviours initiated the ‘Adopt with Red Drop’ cause, ensuring regular blood transfusions for thalassemia patients by mapping a set of donors to each child. Red Saviours supported 15 thalassemia kids, resulting in 155 dedicated donations. The success of this initiative was celebrated on World Thalassemia Day in 2022, recognizing the resilience of these children and the generosity of the donors.
Mind Warriors has provided mental health counselling to numerous individuals, offering support and guidance in times of distress. Through counselling training sessions and workshops on various mental health topics, they have equipped individuals with the essential knowledge to address mental health concerns. The value education courses conducted by Mind Warriors have impacted children of all ages, fostering empathy and personal growth. Suma Narasa Prakash: The Inspiring Founder Behind S.A.V.E
A Journey of Selflessness and Life-Saving Initiatives
In the realm of humanitarian work, there are individuals who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others. One such remarkable person is Ms Suma Narasa Prakash, the visionary founder of S.A.V.E (Serve And Value Every-life). Her journey began five years ago when a simple blood request message on WhatsApp ignited a spark within her to take action, rather than merely forwarding it. Little did she know that this would mark the beginning of her relentless pursuit of coordinating blood donations and saving countless lives.
Suma Narasa Prakash is a self-made blood coordinator, a dedicated mental health counsellor, an animal rescuer, and a registered stem cell donor. With a passion for helping others, she has developed unique and impactful initiatives under the umbrella of S.A.V.E, alongside a selfless team of donors and volunteers. Taking on the immense responsibility of administration and coordination between blood banks, donors, and patients, Suma’s unwavering commitment to her causes remains unseen and untold.
Operating as a one-woman powerhouse, Suma receives calls around the clock from critical cases spanning various cities and age groups, ranging from newborns to the elderly, including foreign nationals seeking medical treatment in India. Her primary focus lies in helping patients, particularly children in government hospitals who lack literacy, financial support, and alternative options. She tirelessly works to bring as many people as possible into the life-saving world of blood donation while encouraging new donors to join the cause.
The need for blood donors always surpasses the available supply, making the task of finding a suitable match a formidable challenge. Despite her persistent efforts, the success rate in finding a potential donor stands at a mere 50%. Additionally, maintaining committed blood donors remains an ongoing struggle. The dire need for more people to come forward and donate blood, especially for children and patients in government hospitals, cannot be overstated. Recognizing the importance of mental health as equal to physical well-being, Suma launched Mind Warriors to combat the prevailing social stigma associated with seeking help for mental health issues. Through this initiative, she aims to raise awareness and emphasize the significance of mental health for building a better society.
Suma’s love for animals is evident in her role as an avid animal lover and caregiver. She has adopted rescued animals and birds, and through her research, she discovered a critical gap in animal and bird rescue services due to the risk of infections and compatibility issues. To bridge this gap and provide a comprehensive solution for the public, she established Animal Carers—a one-stop platform for animal and bird rescues, ensuring that no distressed creature is left without assistance.
S.A.V.E, which stands for “Serve And Value Every-life,” encapsulates Suma Narasa Prakash’s dream of instilling a sense of responsibility and compassion towards all living beings. She firmly believes that we are all part of one global family and that by valuing every life, we can collectively create a more aesthetically pleasing existence. In her unwavering commitment to spreading awareness, Suma even embarked on a trek to the Everest Base Camp, using the expedition as an opportunity to promote the urgent need for various causes.
When asked about her motivation, Suma humbly states, “I don’t know why I started this or why I continue, but today it has become an integral part of my life, and I carry it out with utmost dedication. After all, in every action we take, there is always an opportunity to give back to the universe.”
Suma Narasa Prakash’s journey is an inspiration to all. Her selflessness, determination, and tireless efforts have undoubtedly saved numerous lives and brought hope to those in need. Through her initiatives, she has left an indelible mark on society, reminding us of the immense power we possess to make a difference in the world.
