Washington, NFAPost: In an eagerly awaited press conference on Monday, John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council in the White House, reaffirmed the United States’ robust defence partnership with India and applauded the remarkable cooperation within the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, commonly known as the Quad. These statements set the stage for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the United States next week.
“We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming Prime Minister Modi here,” Kirby expressed, underlining the significance of the defence ties between the United States and India, as well as the tremendous collaboration across the Indo-Pacific region within the Quad. The Quad, consisting of Japan, India, Australia, and the United States, was established in 2017 with the purpose of forming a strategic coalition to counter China’s assertive conduct in the Indo-Pacific.
The invitation extended by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to Prime Minister Modi signifies an official State Visit, featuring a State Dinner scheduled to take place on June 22. The event is expected to foster closer ties and further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the United States and India.
With tensions escalating in the Indo-Pacific region, the defence partnership between the United States and India has gained considerable importance. Both nations share a common vision of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region and have been actively cooperating on various defence and security initiatives. The Quad framework has emerged as a crucial platform for the four member countries to address shared challenges and promote regional stability.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the United States is anticipated to further enhance cooperation and deepen strategic engagement between the two nations. It is expected that discussions during the visit will encompass a wide range of issues, including defence cooperation, regional security, climate change, and economic ties.
As the date approaches, the United States eagerly awaits the arrival of Prime Minister Modi, acknowledging the significance of the defence partnership with India and the valuable cooperation within the Quad. The visit holds immense potential for advancing shared interests and addressing regional challenges, reinforcing the commitment to a free and secure Indo-Pacific region.
