New Delhi, NFAPost: In response to the approaching Cyclone Biparjoy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a meeting to assess the current situation. Sources have revealed that the meeting will take place in the afternoon, with the aim of reviewing the preparations and response measures for the cyclone.
As a precautionary measure, fishing activities along the south and north coasts of Gujarat have been suspended. Furthermore, authorities are actively evacuating residents in districts located near the sea, in anticipation of Biparjoy’s landfall along the Saurashtra-Kutch coasts. The cyclone is expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm before making landfall.
According to officials, approximately 1,300 individuals have already been relocated to safer areas in coastal Devbhumi Dwarka. This step has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents who could be at risk from the cyclone’s impact.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided the latest update on Cyclone Biparjoy. The cyclonic storm is classified as an “extremely severe cyclonic storm” and is projected to move in a north-northeast direction. The IMD’s forecast indicates that the cyclone will cross the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, as well as the adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan by noon on June 15. At the time of landfall, the storm is expected to maintain a wind speed of 125-135 kilometres per hour (kmph), with gusts reaching up to 150 kmph.
Given the potentially dangerous nature of the cyclone, the government and relevant authorities are taking necessary precautions and evacuation measures to mitigate its impact on the coastal regions. The review meeting led by Prime Minister Modi will play a crucial role in coordinating response efforts and ensuring the safety of the affected areas.
