Chennai, NFAPost: Brainobrain Kids Academy, a renowned institution for empowering children, hosted a global walkathon yesterday to promote mental health awareness among children. This event, which attracted participants from various age groups and backgrounds, marked the 20th anniversary of Brainobrain and aimed to create a positive impact on children’s well-being.
The walkathon commenced at Hindi Prachar Sabha, T Nagar, with Mr Anand Subramaniam, Managing Director of Brainobrain Kids Academy, inaugurating the event. The route extended through Pondy Bazaar and Panagal Park, concluding at Venkatnarayana Road. With the theme of “Positive Mental Health for Children,” participants actively voiced slogans, displayed placards, and distributed flyers to emphasize the importance of mental health and encourage healthy practices, such as limiting screen time and promoting social interaction.
The Chennai walkathon was part of Brainobrain’s global awareness initiative, which organized similar events in over 500 locations across India and abroad. Mr Anand Subramaniam expressed his delight in the overwhelming participation and support received for the cause. Recognizing the growing concern surrounding children’s mental health, he emphasized Brainobrain’s responsibility to raise awareness and safeguard children from mental health issues. Furthermore, he announced that this walkathon was just the beginning of a series of events planned throughout the year, all geared towards fostering positive changes in children’s mental well-being.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 20% of children and adolescents worldwide experience mental health conditions, with suicide ranking as the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 15 to 29. The excessive use of electronic devices coupled with a decline in outdoor activities further exacerbates these issues, underscoring the urgent need to prioritize and promote mental health among the youth.
Mr Anand Subramaniam highlighted that the walkathons also served as a significant way to commemorate Brainobrain’s 20th anniversary. After careful consideration, the organizers decided that organizing walkathons would be the most effective approach to addressing the challenges faced by the younger generation and fostering their overall development. He stressed the importance of a sound mind in various aspects of life, including physical health, education, career, and relationships.
