New Delhi, NFAPost: The Indian Army has recently announced the procurement of an indigenous “tactical LAN radio” through a deal with a Bengaluru-based company. This state-of-the-art high-bandwidth backhaul wireless radio equipment is designed to provide reliable communication in tactical scenarios. The procurement of this radio marks the second contract under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative.
The contract was signed in the presence of Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, the Vice Chief of Army Staff, in New Delhi. The exact value of the contract has not been disclosed at this time. The iDEX initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2018, aims to foster innovation and technological development in the defence and aerospace sector by creating a supportive ecosystem.
The tactical LAN radio solution offered by M/s Astrome Tech Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, provides an extended communication range and incorporates an embedded frequency hopping mechanism to minimize the risk of interception. The system also includes enhanced safety features and boasts a continuous operation time of 48 hours on a single set without any breakdown.
The Indian Army’s procurement of the tactical LAN radio demonstrates its commitment to leveraging indigenous technologies and promoting domestic innovation in the defence sector. By signing two contracts under iDEX, the Indian Army has taken a significant step towards enhancing its capabilities with cutting-edge equipment developed within the country.
