Chennai, NFAPost: Two months after launching the National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will start issuing WhatsApp based e-tickets.
A WhatsApp number will be displayed in stations to which commuters can send a message. Subsequently, it will start generating the options for stations of origin and destination and finally take the commuter to payment options.
On clicking on the Book Your Ticket option, the commuter will be asked to choose the origin and destination stations. A commuter can book up to six tickets in one go and pay using UPI, internet banking or credit/debit cards, among other options. After successful payment, a QR ticket will be sent to the commuter.
The More Options button will direct the commuter to information such as details of fares, do and don’ts, helpline numbers, the metro’s business hours. A commuter can also bookmark his/her favourite route for a quick ticketing process.
Commuters will get a 20% discount on tickets booked through the messaging app.
The CMRL is also planning to introduce promotional tickets for about 10-20 days for college students and office-goers who live near the stations but have not travelled on the metro. “Our aim is to make all residents of Chennai travel at least once on the metro. We believe that if they travel once, they will opt for it again,” CMRL MD – E Siddique said.
The CMRL chief also said a detailed project report for the Coimbatore and Madurai metro projects was nearing completion.
