HPCL is set to establish a cutting-edge ethanol plant in Jeetpur Baheri, Una district, according to an announcement made by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. This project, estimated to cost Rs 500 crore, aims to bolster ethanol production in the region while creating numerous employment opportunities for local communities.
A high-level meeting was convened under the guidance of Chief Minister Sukhu to discuss the proposed ethanol plant. The meeting covered topics such as logistics, infrastructure requirements, and the potential impact on the local economy. It was decided that the plant would occupy 30 acres of land in Jeetpur Baheri, with an additional 20 acres allocated to support the project.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Sukhu expressed the Himachal Pradesh government’s enthusiasm for the initiative and announced their intention to invest 50% equity in the project. The state government also assured HPCL of their full cooperation throughout the establishment of the plant. HPCL, in turn, affirmed their commitment to presenting the proposal to its Board of Directors for further deliberation and approval.
To expedite the project, Chief Minister Sukhu instructed the district administration to initiate land acquisition for an approach road from Bhanjal within the next 10 days. This approach road is crucial for smooth transportation and removing potential obstacles during the construction phase. It will enhance operational efficiency and facilitate the seamless distribution of the ethanol produced.
Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the positive impact the ethanol plant would have on the local economy. The establishment of the plant is expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents of Una district and nearby areas, including Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and neighbouring districts in Punjab. The project will generate jobs and open avenues for self-employment, particularly for local farmers.
The proposed ethanol plant will focus on grain-based ethanol production, utilizing locally sourced raw materials. This approach promotes sustainable agricultural practices, reduces carbon emissions, and mitigates environmental concerns. The plant’s operations align with the government’s vision of achieving energy independence and fostering a greener future.
The HPCL-led ethanol plant in the Una district has the potential to revolutionize the region’s ethanol industry and meet the growing demand for renewable fuels. With the support and investment from the state government, the project aims to stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and empower local communities. As the proposal progresses through the necessary approvals and implementation phases, it is expected to bring about a positive transformation in the energy landscape of Himachal Pradesh.
