New Delhi, NFAPost: Government e Marketplace (GeM) has crossed Gross Merchandise Value of Rs 2 lakh crore in 2022–23 as India’s ecommerce industry is going through exponential growth.
GeM is the National Public Procurement Portal for procurement of goods and services for Central and State Government Organisations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness on GeM crossing Gross Merchandise Value of ₹2 lakh crore in 2022–23.
In response to a tweet by the Union Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal, the Prime Minister said, “Excellent! @GeM_India has given us a glimpse of the energy and enterprise of the people of India. It has ensured prosperity and better markets for many citizens.”
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said GeM is a true gem of India.
“A landmark achievement for the nation as India crosses Gross Merchandise Value of ₹2 lakh crore in 2022–23. Under PM Narendra Modi’s relentless pursuit to ensure transparent procurement, GeM is emerging as a trusted platform for buyers & sellers,” said Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
With the objective to create an open and transparent procurement platform for government buyers, GeM started as an online platform for public procurement in the country on August9, 2016 under the the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
