New Delhi, NFAPost: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has urged Union Minister for Commerce Piyush Goyal to take immediate effective steps in line with the report on ecommerce submitted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce to Rajya Sabha on 15th June.
The CAIT has welcomed the Standing Committe report as it protects the small businesses of the country which is facing enormous heat from the hands of global e-giants by making ecommerce as an uneven level playing field.
CAIT National President B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal in a joint statement issued said the report of the Standing Committee is comprehensive and has deliberated on the current scenario of e-commerce in India and its recommendations if implemented will surely remove the vicious atmosphere which is prevailed in e-commerce trade.
“The report of the Committee fully substantiate the charges levelled by CAIT in more than past two years against few e-commerce companies who are flouting the rules & policies in order to captivate not only the e-commerce but retail trade of the Country as well,” said CAIT National President B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal in a joint statement issued today.
The trade body leaders appreciated the work of the Committee which not only gave ample time for the stakeholders to submit their views but also toured few cities and saw itself the ground realties of e-commerce trade. The trade leaders said that remark of the Committee in Introduction of the report which says
“The ecommerce market in India exhibits a clear pattern of concentration, where few e-marketplace giants hold control over a large part of the market, making them indispensable for sellers/business user seeking access to such e-marketplaces. The sizeable online consumer base is alarming and runs contrary to the democratic principles of India and Digital India vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said the leaders.
CAIT National President B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that the report of the Committee has dealt with every aspect of ecommerce trade in a most diligent matter in which various observations and remarks puts a question mark on the current ecosystem of ecommerce.
“The recommendations of the Committee speaks the about the real crux of e-commerce business and therefore need to be looked seriously and immediate steps needed to purify the e-commerce trade in India,” said CAIT National President B C Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal.
