Bengaluru, NFAPost: South Western Railway’s (SWR) Bengaluru Division has decided to extend ‘One Station One Product’ initiative to 80 Railway stations after the division received an overwhelming response from various stakeholders.
According to Bengaluru Division officials, the ‘One Station One Product’ initiative to sell various products on a railway platform by setting up stalls will be extended to 80 Railway stations across Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagaram, Krishnagiri, Sri Sathya Sai, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Chittoor, Hassan, Dharmapuri, Chitradurga and Vellore districts.
The Central government announced ‘One Station One Product’ in the union budget 2022-23 and it aims to encourage indigenous and specialised products and crafts of the local region through providing display and sale outlets at Railway Stations across the division.
The Bengaluru Division opened its first One Station One Product stall on 25th March at KSR Bengaluru station. The stall at the station displayed Channapatna toys, special wooden toys and dolls manufactured in Channapatna town popularly known as “Gombegala Ooru” (Toy Town) in Ramanagara district of Karnataka.
The range of products includes locally manufactured handicrafts, artefacts, textiles and handlooms, traditional garments, local agricultural produce, processed/semi-processed foods, spices, tribal products, sandalwood based products, coffee powder etc.
One Station One Product scheme in Bengaluru Division is driven with the following objectives
a) Promoting ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of Government of India.
b) Providing a market for the local/indigenous products.
c) Providing an opportunity to railway passengers to experience the rich heritage of India and to buy local/indigenous products.
d) Creating additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of society.
Bengaluru Division has proposed to invite applications from the agencies, artisans, weavers, craftsmen, self-help groups (SHG), Tribal cooperatives and marginalized or weaker sections of the society dealing with these products to sell their products at Railway Stations across the division.
According to Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager Shyam Singhofficials, the duration of the stall will be for a period of 15 days.
“If more than one application is received for a particular station, a priority roster will be made and established through a draw of lots and this will continue till all applicants in the priority roster are exhausted,” states Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager Shyam Singh.
A temporary functional stall with easy access to passengers will be made available to the participants. Participants can sell the products on these stalls. They can sell on platforms also by using trolleys.
A list of the products identified for each station is available on www.swr.indianrailways.gov.in. Application will be invited soon and the date will be notified.
