New Delhi, NFAPost: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Iconic Week Celebrations’ of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
As part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM), the “iconic week” is being celebrated from June 6 to June 11, 2022.
“Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is not just a celebration of 75 years, it is a moment to celebrate, fulfill, pump new vigour into the dreams for an independent India seen by the leaders of India’s freedom and go ahead with new resolutions,” said PM Modi.
At the event, PM Modi unveiled a digital exhibition that traces the journey of the two ministries, Finance and Corporate Affairs, over the past eight years.
PM Modi, along with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has also launched the national portal for credit-linked government schemes – Jan Samarth Portal. The e-portal is a one-stop digital portal linking government credit schemes that directly connect beneficiaries to lenders.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the main purpose of the Jan Samarth portal is to encourage inclusive growth and development of various sectors by guiding and providing them with the right type of government benefits through simple and easy digital processes. The portal ensures end-to-end coverage of all the linked schemes.
New series of coins with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav design launched
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a special series of coins that are also ‘visually impaired friendly’.
The coins of Re 1, Rs 2, 5, 10 and 20 denominations will have the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) design are not commemorative coins and will be part of the circulation.
“These new series of coins will remind people of the goal of amrit kal and motivate people to work towards the development of the country,” Modi said while addressing the iconic week celebration of the Ministry of Finance.
No plan to replace Mahatma Gandhi on Indian currency notes: RBI
Reserve Bank of India clarified that it is not considering changes to the existing currency and banknotes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others.
“There are reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering changes to the existing currency and banknotes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others. It may be noted that there is no such proposal in the Reserve Bank,” said RBI in a statement.
There were reports that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) might be considering using the images of Rabindranath Tagore and A P J Abdul Kalam, alongside Mahatma Gandhi, on the new series of currency notes.
According to a report by The New Indian Express, the central bank and the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL) had sent two sample sets of Gandhi, Tagore, and Kalam to IIT-Delhi Emeritus Professor Dilip T Shahani, who is responsible for selecting and submitting watermarks to the government for final approval.
