World record holder athletes participate at the marathon which began at Kanteerava Stadium
Bengaluru, NFAPost: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai along with Karnataka IT, BT and S&T Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan inaugurated the 14th edition of the TCS Marathon on Sunday.
The world’s top athletes including Muktar Edris, Kibiwott Kandie, Andamlak Belihu, Joyce Chepkemoi Tele, Tadese Worku, and Telahun Haile Bekele, who have broken records in the international arena are participating the in the TCS Marathon.
It is interesting to note that the 14th edition of the TCS Marathon returns after a three-year hiatus post-pandemic. The total prize fund of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru is US $210,000, where the men’s and women’s winners will take home $26,000.
Ethiopian World champion Muktar Edris, who recently set a record by winning three consecutive titles in summer’s world championships events and Kenyan long-distance runner Kibiwott Kandie are the star attraction of the event.
World champion Muktar Edris made his Indian debut in the 2020 Delhi Half Marathon. It is also interesting to note that both athletes are considering the TCS World 10K Bengaluru as a preparatory championship for the upcoming global marathons.
