New Delhi, NFAPost: Fuelling India’s ambition to be self-sufficient in chip manufacturing, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) is planning to expand the scope of India Semiconductor Mission by hiring CEO, CTO, and among another leadership team.
According to Arvian Research, the move is viewed as the government’s seriousness to be a global player in chip manufacturing with a solid ecosystem around fab and boundaries.
“It is a reality that foundry establishment for manufacturing chip requires enormous investment and technology collaboration. The steps to give a framework for the whole programme via hiring new leadership is a right step in fulfilling the government’s dream for India,” said Arvian Consulting analyst.
The government formed India Semiconductor Mission as it looks to build an electronic chip and display ecosystem in the country. Also, the Union Cabinet’s decision to approve the Semiconductor India programme with a total outlay of Rs 76,000 crore for the development of the semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in the country has given a new dimension to the whole programme.
As per sources privy to the development, MeitY is looking for a person with over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry and more than 10 years of experience at the global level to serve as chief executive officer (CEO) of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
Also, the applicant for CEO position should have served in a leadership position earlier at least at the position of vice-president. The CEO will head the mission.
The government wants there should be a business division for ISM so that the organisation can be run by professional management including an additional chief executive officer, chief technology officer (CTO), chief strategy officer (CSO), chief financial officer (CFO), chief business development officer (CBDO), etc. These all shall be assisted by domain experts from the industry.
The selection will be done through a search-cum-selection committee headed by the MeitY Secretary. The window for application is open till February 20.
