Speaking at the high-level policy dialogue organised by UNCTAD, Rajeev Chandrasekhar also announced India readiness to partner with like-minded nations towards development in technology embedded governance
The Minister is vocal on focus areas of MeitY including PLI Scheme, the digital revolution, connectivity and the creation of virtual IT parks for smaller towns among other initiatives for transforming India into a digital superpower.
New Delhi, NFAPost: Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said India’s success story of Digitalization is driven by the public and private sector in the global technology eco-system in terms of providing innovative solutions to the world.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar made this observation while speaking at the high-level policy dialogue organised by UNCTAD. Besides India, ministers from Indonesia and Sri Lanka shared policy experiences towards digital inclusion and social empowerment at the policy dialogue.
“India is poised today as one of the largest connected countries in the world in terms of Internet connectivity with around 80 crore people online and one of the world’s largest rural broadband connectivity projects being executed,” said Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Taking into confidence other countries, Rajeev Chandrasekhar also announced India readiness to partner with like-minded nations towards development in technology embedded governance.
He also highlighted the fact the distance between the citizen and government has been bridged tremendously over the last 6 years by leveraging technology and public digital platforms including digital identity, digital payments systems and digital literacy and thus preventing the leakage of social subsidies.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar pointed out the importance of technology and India has demonstrated the power of technology in governance working for the common citizen and small businesses.
The Minister also shared that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has successfully showcased a technology-led model of governance by embedding technology into the governance and transforming the lives of people and India is ready to partner with all like-minded nations towards development in technology embedded governance.
After taking the mantle as a Minister of State in Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been vocal on focus areas of MeitY including PLI Scheme, the digital revolution, connectivity and creation of virtual IT parks for smaller towns among other initiatives for transforming India into a digital superpower.
Indonesia was represented by Minister of National Development Planning Suharso Monoarfa and Sri Lanka was represented by State Minister of Digital Technology and Entrepreneur Development Namal Rajapaksa. While UNCTAD Acting Secretary-General Isabelle Durant delivered the welcome speech, the event was moderated by UNCTAD Macroeconomic and Development Policies Branch Head (Division on Globalization and Development Strategies) Anastasia Nesvetailova.
