‘ThinkAI’ Solution to help organisations to successfully design, develop, and deliver high-performance AI applications
Atos reinforces role as leader in HPC with 10 new supercomputer entries in the TOP500 listing
Atos launches ThinkAI, its secure end-to-end scalable offering which enables organisations to successfully design, develop, and deliver high-performance AI applications. Also, Atos announced 10 new supercomputers based on its BullSequana X high-performance infrastructure and it is named in the TOP500 global supercomputing ranking.
‘ThinkAI’ Solution makes a total of 36 Atos supercomputers listed, with a combined peak performance of 206 petaflops – an increase of 27% in petaflops from the last TOP500 listing announced in November 2020.
ThinkAI is for organisations using traditional high-performance computing (HPC) that want to run more accurate and faster simulations thanks to AI applications, and also for those developing AI applications that need more computing power.
High-performance AI applications augment traditional HPC simulation and are essential to process and analyse massive and complex data sets effectively.
Compared to traditional HPC simulation, AI-powered simulation enables researchers to tackle problems faster and more thoroughly, with increased accuracy, improved cost-efficiency and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), lowering carbon footprint and creating competitive advantage.
Define AI roadmap
AI applications, such as those related to drug discovery, smart cities or autonomous driving for example, are already being developed today, however barriers such as data quality, security and scalability remain – to help overcome these, expert consulting capability is essential and enables users to successfully define an AI roadmap, build scalable AI applications and industrialize these.
ThinkAI is the most comprehensive HPC AI solution on the market today to do this and the only one that combines a full offering from consulting, to hardware and software solutions, to orchestration and final integration. It delivers rapid results and insight on data at optimised cost.
Hyperion Principal Technology Analyst and Data Analysis Manager Alex Norton said the Atos ThinkAI solution brings together the necessary pieces for HPC users, at all stages of their AI journey, to leverage the significant opportunities of AI in their own research.
“The Atos ThinkAI solution can help users in both the scientific and industrial sector effectively combine the newest, most performant hardware and software solutions to speed the development of critical AI-based solutions and enhance the value of their simulation workloads.” said Alex Norton.
Scientific and industrial domains
Atos Senior Vice President and Head of HPC & Quantum Agnès Boudot said AI has created a new paradigm for applications in the scientific and industrial domains, catalysing the translation of data to actionable insights.
“As the complexity of the Machine Learning model and its associated costs continue to grow substantially, dedicated high-performance AI infrastructures become crucial for organizations that want to deliver research breakthroughs. ThinkAI provides a holistic and tailor-made solution approach in advising, architecting and accomplishing AI solutions for any industry, so that they may accelerate time to AI operationalization and industrialisation.” said Agnès Boudot.
Agnès Boudot said the ThinkAI solution framework is made up of:
“Advise” with industry-contextualized consulting supported by experts at The Atos Center of Excellence in Advanced Computing.
““Architect” using best-of-breed AI hardware and software including partnerships with Graphcore and NVIDIA, supplemented with Atos’ digital security capabilities
“Accomplish” with end-to-end solution orchestration, accelerating time to AI operationalization and industrialization at optimised cost.
BullSequana X infrastructure
Atos also made it very clear that 10 new supercomputers based on its BullSequana X high-performance infrastructure helps the company to make a total of 36 Atos supercomputers listed, with a combined peak performance of 206 petaflops – an increase of 27% in petaflops from the last TOP500 listing announced in November 2020.
It is interesting to note that over the last six months Atos has seen a flurry of HPC successes. Followng are the main HPC installations.
· EuroHPC – its BullSequana will be used in five EuroHPC supercomputing centres – Sofia Tech Park at Bulgaria (“Discoverer”), CINECA in Italy (“Da Vinci”), IZUM in Slovenia, (“Vega”) LuxProvide in Luxembourg (“MeluXina” which is also #4 in the GREEN500) and in the Minho Advanced Computing Centre in Portugal, reinforcing Atos’ position as a European leader in high-performance computing.
· The Linkoping University’s ‘Berzelius’ supercomputer for AI will use Atos’ recently announced Atos ThinkAI solution to enable its researchers speed up processing times on their complex data, empowering them to gain insights faster, using the power of deep learning and analytics.
· “Topaze” at the CCRT – a new supercomputer at the French CCRT based on the BullSequana XH2000 solution from Atos, is the result of joint R&D by Atos and the CEA’s Military Applications Directorate (DAM). It will soon be open to the first users, to start the ‘Grand Challenges’ phase, for very large-scale simulations.
· “Noctua2” at Paderborn University – the recently announced “Noctua2” supercomputer at the University of Paderborn, based on Atos” BullSequana XH2000, will give the University the modern, highly available and flexible supercomputer infrastructure that is needed for excellent science and research.
Also announced: University of Edinburgh, Swansea University, Spanish State Meteorological Agency AEMET and JUWELS at Juelich Supercomputing Center, which is the fastest supercomputing system in Europe with a sustained peak performance of 44.1 HPL petaflops, and ranks #7 on the GREEN500.
