New Delhi, NFAPost: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under the administration of Ministry of Power, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MECON Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Steel.
The MoU has been signed to build a strategic partnership to support the implementation of various energy efficiency and resources conservation measures in the steel sector and associated mining industry.
Under this association, EESL and MECON will collaboratively work towards the implementation of solutions related to energy efficiency, clean energy, and other ancillary services in steel & mining industry.
At the virtual MoU signing ceremony, EESL Executive Director (Lighting) S P Garnaik said it has become vital to implement energy efficiency solutions across different sectors in order to move towards a cleaner and greener future.
“This partnership with MECON is a big step towards tapping the immense potential for energy efficiency specially in the steel & mining industries. Our expertise in handling the world’s largest energy efficiency portfolio and technical support from MECON will enable considerable energy savings and environmental benefits,” said S P Garnaik.
Speaking on the partnership, MECON Director (Finance) R H Juneja said MECON welcomes the collaboration with EESL, as their unique & vast expertise in energy efficiency and clean energy and MECON’s credible presence & vast experience in Iron & Steel sector will help in developing effective & energy saving projects.

Shri S K Verma, Director (Commercial), MECON emphasized that this MoU will go a long way in implementing various energy efficiency measures in energy intensive Iron & Steel industry while synergising the strength & expertise of both the companies,” said R H Juneja.
Through this partnership, EESL and MECON aim to jointly address solutions such as retrofitting LED lights, deployment of energy efficient motors (IE3 type) in place of conventional motors and EV transportation with necessary charging infrastructure in the steel Industry. They will also collaboratively work towards the implementation of clean energy initiatives and retrofits, along with products like Super-Efficient AC systems, technology to improve indoor-air quality, safety and efficiency in the buildings/facilities across the various sectors including steel industries.
EESL and MECON would explore options of implementation of energy saving opportunities and implement pilot studies on cross-cutting technologies specially in iron, steel and mining industries. They will also roll out technical training to plant executives on various topics pertaining to Energy Management, Maintenance Management, Water Management and Safety Engineering.
The MoU was signed by UK Vishwakarma, Chief General Manager (Marketing), MECON and Anil Choudhary, Chief General Manager & Head (Operations), EESL in the august presence of R H Juneja, Director (Finance), MECON, S K Verma, Director (Commercial), MECON, Venkatesh Dwivedi, Director (Projects), EESL and S Gopal, Director (Commercial), EESL and other senior officers of both the companies.
