N V Appukuttan, (85), founder of Arvian Group, passed away on Monday late evening at Kozhikode.
Born as the second son of Vappan at Ariyallur on March 1st 1935, N V Appukuttan worked with the Central Mine Planning and Design Institue (CMPDI), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited for 32 years.
He took special training from the School of Mines, Ranchi, now renamed as Indian Institute of Technology.
N V Appukuttan took voluntary retirement while he was working at Bokaro Steel City due to the sudden demise of his wife N V Nalini.
He succeeded in giving education to his three children as he believed in the impact of education in life.
After retirement, he started selling newspaper in Ariyallur and seeded his entrepreneurial journey. Later, he supported and guided the entrepreneurial journey of the second generation led by his younger son N V Vijayakumar, who shifted his base to Bengaluru.
Arvian Group has business interests in consulting, research, media, manufacturing and food processing.
N V Appukuttan is survived by his three children, N V Krishnadas (Chief SubEditor, Malayala Manorama), N V Radhamani and N V Vijayakumar (Founder and Managing Editor, The NFA Post).
P Narayanan (Rtd Manager, Perinthalmanna Cooperative Bank) is his Son-in-law. Nisha and Anu are his Daughters-in-law. His grandchildren include Nandana, Thapan, Arjun, Gautham and Arvind.
